Fellow Methusalehs:
I have a couple of questions concerning vampire abilities:
Melissa Barton gains 1 blood if a Methuselah forfeits the Edge for a
vote. Question: does Melissa have to be ready, or just controlled??
"If Violet Tremain successfully inflicts at least 2 hand damage to an
opposing vampire in a combat, reduce that vampire's capacity by 1 at
the end of combat." (quote from Monger). If Violet used the new
Kraken's Kiss card, which does "Strike: strength+1 ranged damage",
would this fulfill her special ability requirements? I would guess
not, since the ability talks about "2 hand damage" which would imply a
hand strike. If she used Brass Knuckles, would that qualify??
Thanks in advance,
Madman

Controlled. It doesn't require her to be ready.

Well, a hand strike is non-ranged and hand strikes deal hand damage.
Whether there are non hand strikes which can also deal hand damage I don't
know. One for LSJ.

Melee weaposn always inflict melee weapon damage, not hand damage.

Correct.

No. Hand damage is the type of damage done by a hand strike.
Strikes that are not hand strikes cannot deal hand damage.

Correct.

It's the old template. Sword of justice does not inflict damage.

By which I meant "...does not inflict HAND damage," of course.

Not true. It's a strike with a melee weapon.

Assuming we're talking about the Sword of Judgment, correct.
It is a melee weapon. A strike with it is a melee weapon
strike, not a hand strike. The damage done is therefore
not hand damage.
Card text: "Unique melee weapon. Strength+1 damage each strike,
with an optional additional strike each round. Only usable by
Brujah antitribu."

So is it hand damage or not ? (sorry I have not fully understand the
answer you give :-)
Can it be aggravated ?
Be used with a Torn Sign Post ?
Thanx

No.
Its ranged damage.

No.
Unless in a Dawn Op combat.
> Be used with a Torn Sign Post ?
Yes.
Any card which increases strength will work with this
wording of the card. Fists of Death and Fire in the Blood
will pump it as well.
Carpe Noctem.

"Hand Strike: any non-ranged, non-weapon strike that deals damage based on
the striking minion's hand damage, or any minion's non-ranged
damage-dealing innate strike. [LSJ 19970224] "
The strike is ranged, so no, per the first clause.
> (sorry I have not fully understand the

Yes, happily, but not from Claws of the Dead (or whatever).
> Be used with a Torn Sign Post ?
If Torn Signpost resets your strength (I've not got the text of a new
version), the two would stack.

After a fashion. Kraken's Kiss will benefit from Body Arsenal's +1 strength
at superior (so the strike will be at a total of +2 strength, typically for
3 damage), but is not hand damage, and therefore will not be aggravated. Not
the most efficient use of 2 blood, but any port in a storm.
