Current as of: 03 March 1998 Blocking Rulings * You cannot add stealth or intercept unless it is needed. (Original errata to the VtES rules, 17) :B01: [RTR 970630] Combat * Each round of combat begins at close range (errata to VtES rulebook). [RTR] * Cards which are not usable by vampires going to Torpor are not usable by vampires burned in combat, either. [RTR 950622] * Stealing all of the blood from a vampire will not burn the vampire in the advanced (full) game (errata). [RTR] Damage (Combat) * Ammo bonuses are only applied to the selected gun's strike(s). [LSJ 970917] * Damage prevention cards can only be played during strike resolution. [RTR 951110] Directed actions * All actions directed at a Methuselah other than the controller of the acting minion or at cards controlled by such a Methuselah on cards that do not have the (D) symbol have errata to add the (D) symbol, except The Treatment, Fire Dance, Mind of a Child, and Of Noble Blood :D01: [RTR] * The (D) symbol allows the action to be directed at any target. [RTR] Equipments which are Locations (Loquipment) * Loquipment doesn't count as equipment while it is in play. [RTR 960112] Inner Circle members * Inner Circle members cannot be targetted by the Blood Hunt action card. [RTR 960124] Terminology * "Active" means "Controlled", not just "Ready". :T01: (Extensive changes to the rulebook, replacing "Active" with "Ready" where "Active" was used for the old definition of "Ready"). [RTR 960124] * 'Before Combat Begins' actually means 'As Combat is Entered'. [RTR 960124] Vampires/Crypt/Uncontrolled Region * A vampire who gets a bleed bonus if your prey controls a vampire of a certain clan (or other sect) gets his bleed bonus if the Methuselah he bleeds controls a vampire of that clan (or sect). [RTR 960530] 2nd Tradition: Domain, The - Reaction (Prince/Justicar) * Only usable by a tapped Prince or Justicar. This vampire untaps and attempts to block at +2 intercept. [RTR 941109] Academic Hunting Ground - Unique Location (Tre) (2) * Gives blood to vampires during the untap phase, not the master phase. (The VtES version is misprinted). [RTR 960530] Akhentanen, The Sun Pharoh (Mummy) [AH] - Ally (4) * The (D) action to burn a Follower of Set should say "burn Akhentanen to burn a Follower of Set". [TOM 960615] Anarch Troublemaker - Unique Master * Can only be used during your untap phase. [RTR 950413] Anathema [DS] - Political Action - Prince/Justicar * Doesn't kick in if the target vampire is reduced to zero blood during combat due to paying costs - it only kicks in as the result of combat effects. [RTR 961113] Archon - Political Action P/J * Attempting to block the Archon causes the loss of a blood from the would-be blocker, not a pool from his controller. [VtES] Army of Rats - Action (ani) * Having multiple copies out are not cumulative. [RTR 941109] Asylum Hunting Ground - Master: Unique Location (2) * Costs two pool. The V:tES card is misprinted. [TOM 951124] Blood Bond - Action (2) * Is a (D) action. :D01: [RTR 950530] Blood Doll - Master * The Methuselah controlling the Vampire gets the benefit of the Blood Doll. [RTR 950413] Blood Hunt - Action * Is a (D) action. :D01: [RTR 960708] * The Blood Hunt (action card) cannot target an Inner Circle member. [Blood Hunts (votes) can be called on Inner Circle members if they commit diablerie, however. -lsj] [RTR 960124] Blood Rage - Combat (tha) * Requires thaumaturgy, not fortitude. [Card] Blood of Acid [SAB] - combat (Vic) (2) * The effect of Blood of Acid is only applied when the range is close. [LSJ 970926] Blood to Water [AH] - Combat (tha) (2) * Blood to Water can't be played until range is determined. [RTR 961113] Blythe Candelaria [DS] - Vampire (Tre) (3) * Blythe Candelaria is mis-printed. She should have inferior, not superior, Auspex. [TOM 951208] Bonecraft [SAB] - combat (vis) (1) * The "(This does not affect the Strike Resolution step this round.)" reminder text on Bonecraft is properly read as "(This does not affect the currently resolving pair of Strike Resolution steps.)". That is, any additional strikes (or normal strikes resolving after a First Strike Bonecraft) will be affected. [LSJ 970224] Cardinal Sin: Failure of Mission - reaction (2) * Entering combat with Cardinal Sin: Failure of Mission is a (D) action. [LSJ 970922] Cat Burglary - Action (cel) * The inferior version is directed, but not (D). (errata) :D01: [RTR 941109] Catatonic Fear [SAB] - combat (pre) * Catatonic Fear's damage is dealt just after the combat ends. :C03: [RTR 970630] Change of Target - Action Modifier * Will not untap a blocker who was tapped before the block. [RTR 960708] Charnas the Imp - Retainer (Tre) (1) * Employing Charnas is a (D) action. :D01: [RTR 960124] Clan Loyalty [DS] - Action Modifier (1) * Ignore the word "other"; the vampire currently attempting to block the action is also not allowed to attempt to block the acting vampire this turn. [RTR 960530] Crimson Sentinel, The [SAB] - Unique Melee Weapon (2) * The Soul Counters on the Crimson Sentinel only increase the damage done when striking with the Sentinel. The counters do not increase the minion's base hand damage. [980112] Curse of Nitocris - Master * Curse of Nitocris is moved only when a new Methuselah gets the Edge. [LSJ 971006] Deflection - Reaction (dom) (1) * Cost is paid from the vampire, not from your pool. [RTR 941109] Derange [SAB] - action (dem) * Superior Dementation should read: "As above, and the vampire with this card does not untap as normal. During his controller's untap phase, he may burn 1 blood to untap." [LSJ 970224] Detection [SAB] - master * Detection should read: "Put this card on a Lasombra. The vampire with this card does not untap as normal. During his controller's untap phase, this vampire may burn 1 blood to untap. The vampire with this card cannot cast votes. The vampire with this card may burn this card as a (D) action." [LSJ 970224] Disguised Weapon - Combat (obf) * Cannot be played if you don't have a weapon in your hand. Errata'ed Card text: "Usable only before range is chosen. Choose a weapon in your hand. Equip this vampire with that weapon. Pay cost to equip as normal. Superior: As above, but usable when choosing a strike." [RTR 960221] Disputed Territory - Political Action * The political action symbol is missing, but it is a political action. [RTR 941109] Dreams of the Sphinx [AH] - Master (1) * Increased hand size only lasts until the end of the current turn, not until the end of your (next) turn. [RTR 960708] Elder Impersonation [AH] - Action Modifier (obf) * The failed blocker is not untapped, but rather "not tapped" - if the blocker was tapped originally, he will remain tapped (errata). [RTR 960708] Fame - Unique Master * Fame is a unique master card, and should be contested as such. [RTR] Fata Morgana [DS] - Action Modifier (chi) (1) * The restriction against playing modifiers to further increase bleed only applies if you use its superior ability. [RTR 960124] Force of Will [DS] - Action (for) (1) * Ignore the "untap this acting vampire" on Force of Will. The tapped acting vampire bleeds at +1/+2. [RTR 960530] Gangrel Atavism - Master * Doesn't require control of a ready Gangrel. [RTR] Goth Band [SAB] - ally (TorA) (2) * The counter moved to your master card by Goth Band is transformed into the type of counter normally used by the target master card. [RTR 970306] Hawg - Equipment, Vehicle * Grants one (optional) Press each combat, not each turn (Jyhad) nor each round (VtES). [TOM 951224] Hector Sosa - Vampire (Bru) (4) * VtES version should have superior Potence, as in Jyhad. [RTR] Hidden Lurker - Action (obf) * Is an action modifier played by a vampire other than the acting vampire. Card text: "Usable only by an untapped vampire other than the acting minion after the acting minion is blocked and combat is over. Tap this vampire. This vampire now enters combat with the blocking minion. The first round of combat, the blocking minion cannot use any strikes. Superior: As above, but with an optional press." [RTR 960530] Horrid Reality [DS] - Combat (chi) (2) * Only pulls weapons out of the library, not simply equipment. [RTR 960112] Javier Montoya [DS] - Vampire (Tre) (9) * Card text should say "blood", not "pool". [RTR 960112] Legendary Vampire [DS] - Unique Master (2) * Legendary Vampire is only usable if the vampire was moved into your active region during your last influence phase. (Not usable for simply winning a contest or on stolen vampires) [RTR 960124] Malkavian Dementia - Master * Doesn't require control of a ready Malkavian. [RTR] Malkavian Prank - Master (Mal) * Should begin with "Each other Methuselah..." You do not hold out pool yourself. [RTR 960530] Malkavian Time Auction - Master (Mal) * The Methuselah playing the Time Auction cannot bid. [RTR 950209] Mind Rape [SAB] - action (dom) (2) * The counters on Mind Rape are burned only during your untap phase. [RTR 970630] Minor Boon - Master Out-of-Turn * Second sentence should just be: "Put this card on the vampire." :T01: [RTR 960124] Monocle of Clarity - Unique Equipment * Questions about questions may not be asked. [RTR 950530] * Question about the future are only binding until your next untap. [RTR 950530] Mummify [AH] - Combat (ser) * The mummified vampire cannot take a "leave torpor" action, if Mummify was played at inferior. [LSJ 980126] Obedience - Reaction (dom) * Will not untap an acting vampire who had been tapped when he began the action. [RTR 960708] Of Noble Blood - Action * Of Noble Blood cannot target a titled vampire. [RTR 970630] Phobia [AH] - Action (ser) * Phobia is controlled by the Methuselah who played it. [RTR 961113] Pulse of the Canaille - Action (aus) (3) * The inferior is grammatically incorrect, mixing singular and plural for the target. The correct reading is, as in the Jyhad version, "... may look at all Methuselahs' hands." [LSJ 980211] Reform Body [SAB] - combat+reaction (vis) * The vampire need not be untapped to play Reform Body. [RTR 970630] Regina Giovanni [DS] - Vampire (Gio) (10) * Regina Giovanni reduces the cost of any ally or retainer she employs or recruits by 1; both blood and pool costs can be affected by this. [RTR 960221] Ritual of the Bitter Rose - Action Mod and Combat * Can only be used by an acting vampire who diablerizes the opposing vampire in combat, by card text. [VtES] Rotschreck - Master Out-Of-Turn * Should be read as follows: "Play on a vampire that attempts to inflict aggravated damage in combat. Combat ends, and that vampire goes into torpor. During the vampire's controller's next untap phase, burn this card instead of untapping the vampire." [RTR 960112] Rutor's Hand [DS] - Action (tha) (1) * To prevent the damage from Rutor's Hand (superior version), treat it as if you are being struck in combat (i.e., use combat cards, Flak Jackets, etc.) [TOM 951208] Sacrificial Lamb [DS] - Action (obf) (3) * The superior version of Sacrificial Lamb must (not "may") target a vampire in another Methuselah's torpor region. [RTR 960124] Sensory Deprivation [DS] - Action (chi) (3) * Is a (D) action in both its normal and superior forms. :D01: [RTR 960112] Shackles of Enkindu [DS] - Equipment (Gan) (2) * Is controlled by the Methuselah who controls the vampire who used it; changing the controller of the vampire changes who controls the Shackles. (errata) :D01: [RTR 960708] Shepherd's Innocence [DS] - Action (ani) (1) * The basic version is a (D) directed action. :D01: [RTR 960112] Slaughtering the Herd [SAB] - combat (dom) * Requires only dominate. The potence symbols are erroneous. [LSJ] Smiling Jack the Anarch - Unique Master * The second sentence should refer to "each other Methuselah". [RTR 960221] Society of Leopold - Unique Master * Moving the Society is a (D) action. :D01: [RTR 950530] Soul Gem of Etrius - Unique Equipment * Does not cost 2 pool (has no cost). [RTR 960530] Soul Stealing [DS] - Action Modifier{/Combat} (nec) * The normal version can only be used as an action modifier (card text). Add Superior: As above, and this card can also be played as a combat card. [RTR 960124] Taste of Vitae - combat * Only counts blood that the opposing vampire burned as a result of damage. It will not, for example, give blood for blood spent playing combat cards or stolen blood. [RTR 960124] Temptation [AH] - Action (ser) (1) * Temptation is controlled by the Methuselah who played it. [RTR 961113] Thanks for the Donation [SAB] - action (dom) * Thanks for the Donation stays in play even though it is a minion card and the minion it is on is contested. Treat it as if it says: "Put this card into play and choose a card your are contesting with another Methuselah..." [LSJ 970224] Thoughts Betrayed [DS] - Combat (dom) (2) * The superior version of Thoughts Betrayed only prevents cards from being played. Cards already in play may be used as appropriate. [RTR 960112] * Thoughts Betrayed is played "as combat is entered" - will not prevent reaction cards from being played. [RTR 960124] Tomb of Ramses III - Master Unique Location (3) * Tomb of Ramses is not "put on a vampire in the uncontrolled region". It merely targets such a vampire. [SFC 960919] Torn Signpost - combat (pot) * Sets a vampire's base hand damage to 2 (or 3 if superior). [TOM 960306] Tragic Love Affair - Master * Doesn't require control of a ready Toreador. [RTR] Tremere Convocation [DS] - Master (Tre) (1) * Second sentence of Tremere Convocation should read: "Vampires with basic Thaumaturgy may play combat cards requiring Thaumaturgy as if they had superior Thaumaturgy." :T03: [RTR 970630] Trick of Danya, The [DS] - Action (chi) * The normal (only) version of Trick of Danya is a (D) action. :D01: [RTR 960112] Triole's Revenge [DS] - Action (Bru) (2) * The action to burn Triole's Revenge is a (D) action (directed at the Meth. that played it). :D01: [RTR 960112] Ventrue Justicar - Political Action (Ven) * Makes the vampire Justicar of the Ventrue, not Justicar of the Tremere. [RTR 941109] Zip Gun - Combat * Is not a weapon except when it is in play. [LSJ 980303] -- L. Scott Johnson (vte...@wizards.com) Official VtES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast.
