Hey Scott, I see you posted something on a White Wolf forum, suggesting that drafting 100% Sword of Caine boosters would be suitable for a prerelease event. But I believe the prerelease kits include an equal amount of Sword of Caine and Third Edition boosters, right? Do you recommend using just SoC boosters for the draft and using the 3E boosters for prize support? Or is the 100% SoC suggestion more of an "it's possible to do it that way" recommendation than a "that would definitely be the best way to do it" recommendation? Oscar, what's your take? (If you haven't posted your take also on the WW forum where I'm not seeing it, that is. :-) Thanks! Josh

Your belief is correct. >Do you recommend using just SoC boosters for the draft and using the 3E boosters for prize support? He was responding to someone that did not like the 40/40 rules from the Bloodlines prerelease. To maximize the number of new cards played, draft SoC only. >Or is the 100% SoC suggestion more of an "it's possible to do it that way" >recommendation than a "that would definitely be the best way to do it" >recommendation? In my opinion, it would not be best to do it that way. Use the Third Edition and Sword of Caine in equal numbers. Three boosters of each gives you 12 players per kit, which equals $10 per player. Eminently reasonable. >Oscar, what's your take? (If you haven't posted your take also on the WW >forum where I'm not seeing it, that is. :-) He posted his initial preference on the Conclave. http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/ConclaveMonitor/message/1771 VTES Sword of Caine Pre-release Kit WW02762 $119.99 1 VTES Sword of Caine Booster Display 1 VTES 3rd Edition Booster Display 15x Gran Madre de Dio, Italy. EC Promo 15x Kisha Bhimji LoB Promo Check that price everyone. Heavy discount for you guys this time around. The event, as always, is up to the organizers discretion. I suggest, however, using the new recursion rules for drafting to allow as many players as possible. http://www.white-wolf.com/vtes/index.php?line=veknRules#sec7.2.2 7.2.2. Recursion When the minimum library size is less than forty, each player gets a number of recursions based on that minimum size. (The term recursion is based on the draft format which inspired it, the Internal Recursion Draft format, also known as Swainbank Draft). Each recursion allows the player to use a discard phase action to shuffle all the library cards in his or her ash heap back into his or her library. This can be done whether or not there are any cards left in the player's library or hand. A player is not considered to have exhausted his or her library if he or she has any recursions remaining (which means that a player cannot attempt to withdraw if he or she has any recursions left, for instance). The number of recursions is chosen to make the effective library size (the size of the library multiplied by the number of times the player goes through the library) as close to sixty as possible. The following table shows the number of recursions each player gets based on the number of booster packs used per player. These kits are available through your retailer and major distributors. Mixing 3e and SoC is also very possible.

Here in Fantasiapelit Helsinki we are going to run it as a draft that costs 20 euros. You get 6 boosters of SoC and 6 boosters of 3rd E plus two each promo. AFAIK most other Finnish pre-releases are also going to use this format as well. 20 euros for 12 boosters is a Good Deal TM in my book -thanks White Wolf! Lönkka VTES NC Finland

We're going to run a 4 SoC / 4 3rd ed per player draft. Which draft format would you think the more adequate ? I was thinking of that version where you play with your boosts but can exchange some cards... -- Orpheus ---------------------------------------- "I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, ... but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant." --Robert McCloskey

There is a "sealed with limited trading" described in the VEKN rules, but draft is probably going to be better. Booster or table; both should work fine.
