1. If a vampire with Baleful Doll cannot untap during your untap phase, can
that vampire still burn the Baleful Doll for the effect, or is "the bearer may
tap himself and..." a requirement of activating the Baleful Doll's ability? I
believe that the tapping of the bearer disadvantage isn't relevant when the
bearer is already tapped.
Baleful Doll [FN]
Equipment, 1 blood, Necromancy, Unique.
[nec] Choose a vampire controlled by your prey. The bearer may tap himself or
herself and burn the Baleful Doll during his or her untap phase to cause the
chosen vampire to burn 3 blood.
[NEC] As above, but choose a vampire controlled by any Methuselah.
2. If a Methuselah at 1 pool plays Hostile Takeover, ousting himself, does the
'auction' still take place? I believe not, based on the ruling that states
"The player who played the Hostile Takeover conducts the auction". If this
ruling has nothing to do with the answer, how does the resolution of ousting
yourself via HT then work?
Hostile Takeover [Jyhad, V:TES]
Master, Ventrue, 1 pool, Master.
Choose a controlled vampire. Each Methuselah bids pool for control of that
vampire. The highest bid goes to the vampire's controller; the bidder then
takes control of the vampire. If the controller wins, half the winning bid
(rounded up) goes to the blood bank.

The bearer cannot tap "to" do something if he's already tapped.

The effect is paid for - it happens (the card resolves when played).
A Meth with 2 pool can play Unnatural Disaster and still burn a location (as
she ousts herself).

Basically this carsd sucks big time! Without the need to tap (as with
the much better Zombie retainer) it would probably be worthwhile but
now you basically waste two actions... This will probably never make
any of my decks.
Oh well, it's not like it's the only card that never leaves my
folders...

It's essentially 3 Cryptic Missions for the price of two (well, two actions,
only one card). Not that I've ever built a Cryptic Mission deck (or Shadow
Twin... blech). But other people have. It's definitely a little
underpowered. Should not have been unique... then it'd be really nasty.

Cryptic/Shadow Twin is amusing. I have actually swept two or three games
(probably just 4-player) with my Shadow Twin deck. I should post it one of
these days. It does require some technique...

Yeah, I forgot it was unique. I'm still thinking about using it in an
upcoming deck...just throw only 5 or 6 into a deck, and use it as support...

I wouldn't say it sucks.
If you look at the Setites, three of them have Necromancy. They have
access to an ally that can play Necromancy cards. Go ahead and toss
in Kherebutu - he can play them too.
Five minions that can play Baleful Dolls - six, if you toss in Sargon
Fragments.
Baleful Doll drains three blood off one of your preys vampire,
speeding up the time it takes you to permanently gain control of him
with Form of Corruption. You can also use Jar the Soul to speed this
up further. Yes, you're tying up minions of your own, but you're
doing so in a fashion that GAINS you minions later on. If you throw
in 3-caps with nec, then you're not even tying up any meaty minions.
Two weenies to pull this off every turn, your mid-caps play the Form
and bleeding actions.
That's a sizeable investment, if you can pull it off.
Is it a card you can put in every deck? No - you have to work your
deck around it to make the best use of it. But it hardly sucks.

I had Baleful Doll *in* my Shadow Twin deck. Took them out as they seemed not
worth the splash. Played the leaner Shadow Twin deck and thought it actually
played worse.

Interesting. I will definitely post my Shadow Twin deck when I get
the chance. Maybe compare and see what (if any) differences.
But yeah, as someone (Fanboy?) posted recently, Baleful Doll + Form of
Corruption (with maybe a splash of Thrones Crumble and Tongue of the
Serpent) seems a really good deal. Along with a The Final Nights or
FSR, yeah. Good stuff.
