Absimilard's Army Event Requires 1 Gehenna card Gehenna. Do not replace until a Methuselah is ousted. Requires at least one other Gehenna card in play. During each Methuselah's untap phase, he or she may put the top card of his or her library in play. That card represents a ghoul ally with 2 life, 2 strength, and 1 bleed. If the ally is burned, it is removed from the game. When a Methuselah is ousted, burn this card. Remove all such allies from the game when this card leaves play. I've only seen this card played once, in a pre-release event. When it came out, all the players agreed that the ghoul allies should be placed face down on the table, so that there would be no confusion about their status once in play. We had some minor disagreement on whether the card should be turned face-up and announced prior to being turned face down and "converted" to a ghoul ally. Questions: 1) Should the card be turned face up and announced before being put in play as a ghoul? If not, should it be turned face up when being removed from the game? 2) If the top library card is an event or other card that is playable only once per game, does putting it in play as a ghoul count as being played? Thx in advance. - Pat

This is a typical case of rule bitching that could i am surprised to see in a v:tes game, which supposedly involve mature people. If you want to put those cards in play as they are, with life counters on them, and suppose that some people won't exactly remember what they are (despite the Absimiliard army in play), then you may want to use appropriate sticky notes (like Post-it notes) or funky counters you'll call "Absicounters" like matches or coins... Whatever. You can also agree with other players to put them face down to make a distinction in some fashion with other master cards with counters on them -as long as everyone is ok with that, it should not disturb the game at all. then again maybe you'll want to distinguish those ghoul from contested locations / unique cards by putting stuff on the contested cards. Honnestly, If all the players can't agree on simple stuff like that, i would ask the question : do they really have fun playing together or is it a "i know i'm right and lsj will confirm" game each time something is done ? It's not just against you, i just find it an annoying trend when people try to seek higher authority for things which simple don't really need that. I'll try to answer anyway. > Questions: > > 1) Should the card be turned face up and announced before being put in play > as a ghoul? Remember that card in the ash heap and card that went out of game are Public information in V:tes, so you'll have to show them the card when it becomes a ghoul (since it should come face up), then again when it goes ot of play. > 2) If the top library card is an event or other card that is playable only > once per game, does putting it in play as a ghoul count as being played? Putting a card from the top of your library as a ghoul does not mean to "play" it. You "play" a card from your hand. Otherwise, if it is from the ash heap or another card, you "put it into play". Semantics ;) please have fun together instead of bitching on futile stuff =)

If you want to put Dude, did you read what I said? "Minor disagreement." No one was bitching. No judges were called. No voices were raised. It was simply a brand new card, and 5 experienced players were debating how best to handle it. We handled it and moved on. Now I'm asking a question about how other experienced players would handle the same card. Is that not what this newsgroup is for? > You can also agree with other players to put them face > down to make a distinction in some fashion with other master cards with That's what we did. We discussed it for about 30 seconds and reached agreement. The face down solution was fine with everybody. > please have fun together instead of bitching on futile stuff =) > We had plenty of fun in that game. We explored a bunch of new cards, played a bunch of events, and had a great time. In fact, along with the first round game of the other prerelease I attended, it was probably the most enjoyable VTES game I've had all year. I intended this to be a very simple question. I have no idea why you chose to read so much into it. - Pat P.S. Note that subsequently LSJ provided a very simple answer... that's all I needed.

If "minor disagreement" requires you to post the newsgroup for the rulemonger answer, fine. My mistake.
