I was wondering...The Hidden Lurker and Fast Reaction cards say that
whoever gets nailed by them cannot strike in the first round. Anyone
notice that there is no such restriction against simply taking a maneuver
? Once had Rake <boosted up to Superiour Celerity and Potence> ambush me with
Fast reaction. Played Torn Signpost and Fists of Death and prepared to
waste my vampire. I just played a Fake Out and that was that.
Note: I don't think you should be allowed to use maneuvers from weapons or
strike cards in that first round, though. Only maneuver cards or equipment
like the IR Goggles should be used...

A Brujah deck without any manuevers? Interesting.

Not really the same thread, but someone pointed out something really
odd about HL played as written.
The rules are fairly clear (but versions) that anything without a
D is an undirected action, making HL an undirected action.
For a truely odd action, have an action blocked by Anneke from
across the table, say, and then play HL. Both your predator and prey
may block, since it's an undirected action, but Anneke's controller
may not, since it's an undircted action (so only prey then predator
may attempt to block.)
Ouch.

That's right, you cannot. In order to use the maneuvers on weapons,
you must use them as a strike as well, since you can't use a strike, you
cannot use the maneuver.

HL describes exactly what happens when it it played, and it doesn't
seem to give anyone a chance to block. For my money, it shouldn't
be an action, but an action modifier.

Your horns are showing Joseph. I apologize and withdraw my earlier
post. I guess I'm just lucky that, when I was using HL, nobody took
the opportunity to block.
Humbly bowing to you emminence,

But, it is'nt, Blanche. It's an action, and all actions can be blocked. It's
not even at stealth.

Hi Gary,
The FAQ, posted by Tom, says that hidden lurker is an action modifier.

No action card (except for the two which can be taken by a vampire in
torpor) describe the block attempts (or lack thereof). Therefore,
since WotC's DT has un-ruled that HL is an action modifier, it can
be blocked easily like any other action (more easily, since it isn't
marked as a (D) action even though it is obviously directed.
(So, it seems, there are two undirected actions which are not at
stealth and do not offer a compelling reason why).

True. But this was leter overturned. Chronologically:

I talked to the person who heads up keeping track of Jyhad rulings, and
we're pretty sure that Hidden Lurker should be an action modifier. We're
going to check with Jyhad's design team on whether we want to issue
errata or just fix it in future printings, but we probably want to
issue errata.

3) "Shouldn't Hidden Lurker be an action modifier?"
No. It is an action, as the card says.

Now Algustus, isn't that a tad overreactive? Your Nosferatu still have Lost
in Crowds, Conceal the Gathering, etc.
And if you wanted to use Hidden Lurker to bring in an unexpected combatant,
you still have Mask of 1000 Faces.

And that overturning was an act of pure stupidity. (Sorry, DTR, but I
have to be harsh...this was a big one). HL does not WORK as an action. It
makes no sense as an action. It works, and makes sense, as an action
modifier.

Hi Mark,
Sure, I was over reacting. I just felt like whining because I'll
have to waste stealth cards to get to use the card, and those evil auspex
people will not have to use any extra cards to play Fast Reaction. Oh,
well, lifes not fair and neither are Toreadors....
