Must the minon getting hit by a strike modified by a Target card be able to play the cards discarded to cancel. With the current rule of able to play as if X Can a Shadow Court Satyr w/ Amaranth now diablerize a vampire going to torpor? Matt

Play when choosing a strike. If any damage from this strike is successfully inflicted on the opposing minion, he or she takes an additional 2 damage from this strike, and he or she cannot press this round. The opposing minion may discard two combat cards [COMBAT] to cancel this card. A minion may play only one aim each strike. Card text says discard 2 combat cards. No clause that says the minion has to be able to play them. Although I wonder if it should say the opposing minion's controller/ methuselah can discard the two cards, since minions don't have cards in hand to discard exactly. > With the current rule of able to play as if X > Can a Shadow Court Satyr w/ Amaranth now diablerize a vampire going to > torpor? > I believe the rulebook specifically states this doesn't work, and that only a vampire can commit diablerie. "13) Only vampires may commit diablerie. Effects that would allow something other than a vampire to commit diablerie are ignored. For example, Amaranth is useless if played on a Shadow Court Satyr. Thank you for the link. It does not make sense to me, that a SCS can play Taste of Vitae as a vampire, but not Amaranth. Amaranth should see SCS as a vampire until the card is resolved, but whatever.

[ quoted text not captured ] It's a specific exception, because it leads to weird and bad things. For one - either the ally is treated as a vampire throughout the entire diablerie, which means that you could put a skill card on the ally, and what the hell does that mean (I guess it would do nothing at all, but it still doesn't make sense), and then do you get the blood off the opposing vampire and what's the ally's capacity for that blood? Or, he's not treated like a vampire and thus there wouldn't be a bloodhunt, which is bad, because you couldn't even burn him with anything like Carlton Van Wyk or 6th Tradition or what have you. And so on. All in all, an ally committing diablerie is just stupid, which is why it's not allowed. =)
