I've been having problems with decks that start slow because often I
have a speedy prey who has his prey on the ropes before I can really
engage him. I was thinking about how to prevent this from detracting
from my strategy, and I saw this card.
Lextalionis
Worth 1 Vote. Called by any vampire at +1 stealth.
Choose a Methuselah who has received a victory point since your last
turn. Successful referendum means the Methuselah must immediately tap
all of his or her minions; the minions do not untap during the
Methuselah's next untap phase.
I used it once in a draft years ago against Robyn Tatu (although I
think it was blocked), but it just seems like an amazing card that
gets absolutely no play.
What does everyone else think?

I think it's too situational to see it played. And people pack lots of
untap anyways. And the fact that the guy to be tapped has probably just
gained 6 pool.
But, sometimes it can get you a GW for sure. And there's the fact that
you'll probably have support all around the table. But - have a wallish
predator, have bad luck drawing it, etc etc - just makes the card too
situational.

Hey Norm, how often do you think you'll find a person who earned a victory
point since your last turn and has untapped minions?

agreed that it's usually crap, but, o imaginative deck-builder, there
is probably some sick way to use it with vote lock and political flux
to dick someone pretty badly. oust your grandprey with your prey's
help, splitting your damage votes between them. on your grandprey's
last turn, you do something like, flux to 1, ousting krc on grandprey,
lextalionis on prey. you have the next turn to crush your prey.
repeat on original grand-pred and predator, and if all goes well, you
get 3 vp, allowing 1 each to 2 others.
sounds iffy, but if anyone can make it work, that
someone probably lives in a swamp.

What dome said seems pretty much correct, it's too situational. But
maybe you could combo it with Political Flux, esp if you have a vote
deck anyway...
And there's always Life Boon.

It depends on if "Lunging" is the major playstyle around you. I see
"lunging" often getting someone killed if they come up short.

I was giving it some thought. The reason to use this card would be
clearly for a combat deck, which are slow to oust. My thinking would
be that you never want anyone else to gain 2 victory points in a game,
and you always do better on a table with less players. So you could
put the card in your deck to hamstring the player who gets the first
victory point regardless of where that player sits on the table. It
is such a crippling vote that it should result in that player's oust.
If that holds true then you have eliminated 2 players at the table,
shrunk the table to 3 players (where a combat deck reigns supreme),
and no player has taken 2 victory points, which puts you in a good
position to play last man standing or gain all 3 of the last victory
points on the table.

I've seen it pitched for a vote several times. I've seen it actually
get called a couple times, and maybe even passed once. David Tatu has
put it in a few decks, as have I.
It's easy enough to cycle (at least in some metagames) that it's
probably not terrible to include in a deck.

Well if you have a good enough combat deck to pass that vote with 3
others on the table - try it out. You'll certainly have to do some major
tabletalking, as I presume you're not the only one that knows combat
owns in 3 player tables. That would be true in a "decent" metagame.
However, if the guy earning the first VP is really really insanely
nasty/fast you'd get table support, but who knows if your draw would be
fast enough to stop the nasty VP-guy. That would mean including like 6
copies or so - which, lets say in a POT/PRE based deck could be
signposts, iron glares or something that you'll be able to use in any
point of the game. Dunno. It definetly would be a really awesome combo
if it sat where it should sit - but it's quite improbable it will.
On the other hand, it aint legal to call the referendum, and choose an
unexisting meth if no one got a VP, right? Because if it is it would
still be okay to get a voter out of it or something. And voter is goood.

It's not just him, and it's not just this newsgroup, it's all over Usenet.
Apparently Google Groups is having some kind of an epileptic seizure.

Yes, but everyone is in shock from the emergance of a table threat
(anybody with 1 VP is a table threat). Also, you are directly
benifitting two other players on the table. The ousters prey, who
gets 2 turns of no pressure, and the ouster's predator who gets a two
turn shot and ousting his prey.
Even if you crosstable your "buddy", it is still best for everyone at
the table that you get to pass this vote.

No, it is the stupid google groups interface I think.
Unfortunately this time the users of the newsreader suffer as well.

I have, and would, only put it in decks that rely on recycling and
hand control. A vote deck with sargon fragment or giovannia weenie/
sudario, a malk anti vote deck with sybils tongue, etc.
The only problem with this card is that it is very situational. Once
you bypass that, its a really good card.

Lunging seems like a pretty popular technique overall. But even if it's
not that common around you, I think the card will end up tapping just one
or two minions in a non-lunging environment.
The key to lunging is in not coming up short. Or, if you do come up short,
to use psychic powers to convince everyone that no lunging took place.
Really, it's about having psychic powers.
And if you have those, you don't need Lextalionis.

And...it prevents them from untapping on their next untap phase (even
if they are infernal), which is a great way to slow them down.

Infernal: An infernal minion doesn’t untap as normal in the untap phase. During
his controller’s untap phase, she may burn a pool to untap him.
http://www.white-wolf.com/vtes/rulebook/rulebook.html#sec11
He's not untapping as normal anyway -- Lextalionis just (uselessly) duplicates that.
He can still pay a pool to untap.
Same for Rötschreck.

I also don't believe in reading card text.
That's a reasonable card. For some reason, I'm just not warming up to it.
Perhaps it would be a deck that works well with voting Ravnos that tap
down everyone with Sensory Deprivation?
There's also a neat possibility here with First Tradition. . . Tap someone
out, and they now have to pay 4 pool to untap their vampires. . . .
Yet another option with Domain Challenge. Tap them down and then oust the
bitches.
I need to build a few decks with Lextalionis, it seems.
