Some questions went to our minds when me and some friend were playing our last game : * Is it allowed not to strike in a combat round ? ie, not to do anything else than letting the opponent hit. This question was about someone who was fighting a famous (card "Fame") opponent, and then the Methuselah didn't wish to send his foe in torpor. * Does combat tap a vampire ? We could answer yes, since it is an action, but when you remember that it is allowed to attack a tapped vampire which has "Haven Uncovered" on him, it's not so obvious... This question went when a Methuselah has an untapped vampire, with "Haven Uncovered" on him. The vampire was directly attacked once... was it tapped then ? * When a card says "prevent all damage", does it include aggravated damage, or not, since they don't effectively do damage, but send the target to torpor instead ? * Perhaps will there be some others questions soon... Blocking taps a vampire. If you directly attack a vampire he does not tap, and if he was tapped already, he can still fight back. 3) Aggravated damage DOES do damage. One point of damage will send a vampire to torpor, unless a vampire spends blood to heal it. Damage doesn't remove blood, blood is used to heal the damage. Only you can't heal aggravated damage very well, so you don't spend the blood, you just go to torpor. So, yes, you can prevent it like any other damage, but you can't prevent the "damage" from steal blood cards, because it's NOT damage. Larrx...

This question was about someone who was : fighting a famous (card "Fame") opponent, and then the Methuselah didn't : wish to send his foe in torpor. No. You must always declare a strike. This strike may be a dodge, combat ends, steal weapon, etc. that does not do any damage assuming you have the appropriate card to play at that time, but if you have no card the you must choose to strike with your hands for regular hand damage. : * Does combat tap a vampire ? We could answer yes, since it is an action, but Combat does not tap a vampire. This is a common misconception, as most vampires either are attempting an action or a block when they get into combat (which _does_ tap them) but the act of combat is not a tapping thing. : * When a card says "prevent all damage", does it include aggravated damage, : or not, since they don't effectively do damage, but send the target : to torpor instead ? Aggravated damage is still damage. It simply represents damage that cannot be healed in the regular fashion (by spending blood points). Thus, something that prevents damage can prevent aggravated damage as well. If you are receiving 1 regular and 1 agg. damage on the same strike and can only prevent one point, it is up to you which damage you prevent. No. You must play a Strike card or strike with hands. papillo the preternatural

No. Design Team 11/9/94: >You cannot choose "no strike" as a strike. >* Does combat tap a vampire ? We could answer yes, since it is an action, but > when you remember that it is allowed to attack a tapped vampire which > has "Haven Uncovered" on him, it's not so obvious... This question went > when a Methuselah has an untapped vampire, with "Haven Uncovered" on > him. The vampire was directly attacked once... was it tapped then ? No. Enetering combat does not tap. Acting taps. Blocking taps. That is all (unless otherwise stated on the card, of course). (see also Tom's answer that Cat's Guidance (untap blocker) must be played *before* combat. If combat tapped a minion, Cat's Guidance would be useless). >* When a card says "prevent all damage", does it include aggravated damage, or > not, since they don't effectively do damage, but send the target to > torpor instead ? All damage. Rulebook, pg 33: "Note that the vampire will not go into torpor for aggravated damage at this point, as it is considered not to have been damaged at all." The first point of aggravated damage that is not prevented send the vamp to torpor. [ quoted text not captured ]
