LSJ made a comment in another post about how if you are Black Hand and
then Clan Impersonate to a Camarilla clan, you are now a Cam Black
Hand.
This got me thinking about the default sect stuff.
There was a ruling that Gangrel are now considered Independent as
default. This came from the canon that Gangrel left the camarilla.
So now Assamites. In canon, they are of all three sects (Cam, Sabbat,
Independent).
In the card game, if you include legacy or blood, there are some
Laibon as well.
So anyway LSJ... simple new minor ruling suggestion:
When becoming an Assamite (clan impersonation), the controller gets to
choose what sect the Assamite becomes.
Thoughts on this? Its a minor change but I'm curious...

Hmm. My thoughts are the following.
It would be a bad change for the following reasons.
All clans have a default sect. A single, default sect.
For assamites to go against this would create a matter of additional
rules, extra rulebook text, undoubtedly some inclarity as well.
The change would be minor, and add additional rules to an already rule-
heavy game. Since there's no clear reason why this change would fix
something wrong in the game, or add to it's playability/fun, I'd be
against said change.
Change might be good, and beneficial. Change for the sake of
roleplaying, adding rules, I'm pretty sure isn't.
Cheers,
B

Adam, the base sect of Gangrel was changed in the card game to
independant. The base set of Assamites in the card game has always
been independant, that hasn't been changed. Vampires has printed can
be of any sect regardless of the base sect of the clan, but the base
sect is still the base sect.
For example if Tsunda does an Embrace it's an independant Ravnos.
If Tsunda clan impersonates another clan, and goes back to Ravnos,
he's an independant Ravnos.
etc

I know how the "base" sect works. I am just saying that Gangrel was
changed to independent to fit with storyline (which the newer gangrel
follow). Vtes has shown through the expansions that assamites are of
many sects, which also fits into storyline.
Currently, if I take the assmamite Olugbenga (laibon) clan impersonate
to a different clan, and then clan impersonate back, he is
automatically Independent.

Older Gangrel also follow, too.
Some other clans have members of many sects.

Likewise for the Ravnos antitribu (e.g., Anka), Serpents of Light (e.g.,
Ezekiel), Kinyoni (Tsunda), Xi Dundu (well, Onaedo would revert to Sabbat rather
than to Independent, but you get the idea), Lasombra antitribu (Lucita) and so on.
Even Angus would revert to Independent if he impersonated a different clan and
then becomes Gangrel again.

Even you can't rule on Angus, LSJ. He is unruled.

"X has 2 votes" (or 1 vote, or whatever) is considered a title, just as
much as a Prince is considered a title.
However, it is not tied to any clan or sect. It is only tied to that
vampire being that vampire. If that vampire gains a new title (say,
Baron), they will yield the "X has 2 votes" title.
If Xavier becomes Sabbat, he still has his 2 votes title. If Mata Hari
gets a Writ of Acceptance, she still has her 2 vote title.
