Follow the Blood
Reaction
Requires a Black Hand vampire.
Only usable when a hunt action is successful, after resolution.
This Black Hand vampire untaps and enters combat with the acting
vampire. This reacting vampire gets an optional maneuver or press in
that combat.

Not very good... I don't know, maybe BH Assamites could do some dorky

however.

It's awesome. Maybe too awesome - the ability to get out of turn
rush... I can see a lot of Rotschreck getting packed into decks in the
near future. As a lot of decks rely on hunting for their pool gain,
this is potentially devestating. Doesn't require intercept, can't be
blocked by poons, it just happens. And they don't need to be untapped
to play it. Ouch!

Its not out of turn rush, its out of turn combat. You never seen a
Tzimisce deck block a hunt and agg -> Rotschreck someone before? Its
not that surprising or amazing.

Uh yes you do. Where on the card does it say usable by a tapped
vampire? Nowhere. It untaps you (why Im not entirely sure, but its
cool, because after the combat you can block or flick or whatever)...
you still need to be untapped to play it.
Yeah ok its a card that does admittedly have some cool effects... but
it requires someone to hunt, and I dont see that happening that often.
[ quoted text not captured ]
I could see it played in some FSR or cryptic mission or something
decks, its pretty cool to use with a wake, since you will be untapped
for real after it.

Unless you happen to also have a bunch of Marijava Thuggees in your
deck, but that would require Black Hand vampires.

I believe he meant that you can play the card when tapped with the help
of a wake. It's a very beautiful card, but it doesn't untap you no
matter what you may think. Most decks hunt at some point of the game.
This is something with Black Hand that says don't hunt!

What? Re-read the card text.

It is when it can be done with a single card. So what, It's Hesha,
with an Unlicensed Taxicab going for a cruise on Sunset Blvd, and that
he's Meth has a fist full of stealth. It's one card...
I'm not advocating playing a gazillion of these, but any intercept/
combat deck - or even just plain intercept deck that is black hand
should seriously consdier packing at least a handful of these things.
It is obviously to try and neuter the perceived power of Blood Doll...
no more is it going to be a guarantee pool gainer for you. I know of
all my decks - plenty of them rely on weenies blood doll/hunting for
their pool gain.
And yes, whilst it is not an out of turn rush - it's as good as.
Because you don't have to play intercept v stealth tag.

ok - misread that, but it does get you untapped ready to block/flick
and or play another Follow the Blood.

You don't see hunting that often? It happens at least a handful of
times a game, and if you can stop it at the cost of 1 reaction card,
why wouln't you?

Actually, my first thought was a bunch of Gehenna gateway (or mostly
harmless) events, and Thirst.
People lose blood if they don't hunt, so decks will need to hunt
eventually. Potentially good for annoying weenies, and taking out the
ones you want to stab in the face (e.g. the one who got the Praxis
Seizure), and builds up to annoying mid-caps too.
Thirst would take a while to build up (it's capacity less than Gehenna
cards in play), but it might be a fun thing for a Black Hand deck to try
out.

The effect on that type of deck won't be that great. Believe me, I have seen
a lot of those lately. If you manage to torpor one or two of the vampires,
there are always some more who rescue the ones in torpor. The Hungry Coyote
can give this type of deck so much blood that rescuing the vampires in
torpor is not a big problem. Carlton Van Wyk can give that type of deck a
HUGE advantage, because then the first vampire to diablerize one of the
weenies is burned. A terrible trade-off if you are already outnumbered...
I believe that you can only beat these decks if you are fast because they
need some turns of setup. The other method is to consistently block the
creation of Embraces, Waters etc., starting in the second or third turn of
the game. IMHO rush decks have no chance unless you can consistently burn
the weenies, or you have Carver's on the table. Otherwise you would have to
be able to rush several times a turn which you can't do for very long.

Hmm. The Fame Multi-Dunk just got a fair bit stronger. You rescue after
the first dunk on your own turn, and wait for the forced hunt as first
action in your prey's turn. Let it go... enter combat with this reaction,
and dunk him again. Saves a rush card, and one less opportunity for prey
to block the chain of actions (cause there's one less action).

Yeah, the key to this card is that it doesn't require any intercept.
There are plenty of times when I've played a rush combat deck and then
one of my targets gets rescued, and hunts, and I just don't have
intercept to block them (because I've used my card slots on combat, or
because they pack lots of stealth). This card eliminates that need and
can allow you to focus on what you do best, which is fight (and if
you're Black Hand, that just makes sense).
But, it does require a hunt action to be taken. Those happen quite
often as games progress when vampires get low on blood. We have a
saying around here though which might be partially invalidated by this
card's existence: "Choosing to hunt is strong. Being forced to hunt is
weak." Choosing to hunt now carries risks.
As I mentioned in another thread, part of weenie decks strength is
that one of the actions they frequently take, hunting (after a hands
for 1 combat exchange), is at 1 stealth. Follow the Blood also works
against them.

Card text:
"This Black Hand vampire untaps and enters combat with the acting
vampire".
It's not that complicated. You have to be untapped to play it. It also
untaps you when you play it. It's weird, quite thoroughly weird, but
it's not complicated. I guess the point is if you play a Wake and then
Follow the Blood, you end up untapped after combat. That's kinda cool
I suppose.

Nope. IME, you're better of not blocking the making of babies. Let the
vamps spend their blood and let 'm jam on stealth. You do block the
hunts and rescues, however. This will cause the player to have a
severe bloodshortage.

again: nope. What you do need, is a rushing at stealth. With babies

Stupid questions:
1) Can you play Follow the Blood if a Foul Blood has been played on a
normal hunt action? I found this LSJ post, but its wording is unclear
to me (in the post, he separates "hunt" and "action," but Follow the
Blood collapses the two).

2) If the answer to the above is "no," can you play Follow the Blood
if a hunt for more than one blood has been Foul Blooded (once)?

Foul Blood: "Only usable when a vampire controlled by another Methuselah
successfully hunts. The acting vampire gains 1 less blood and takes 1 damage
(damage not preventable)."
Follow the Blood: "Only usable when a hunt action is successful, after resolution."
From the URL above: "The action is successful if it resolves unblocked."
So, yes. The hunt action was successful (resolved unblocked) and has resolved.

Depending on the deck, the stealth may be more intended for the baby
makers. And for some of the decks, stealth is widely available to the
babies. For example, an empty Tumnimos lacks a solid way to generate
stealth with action modifiers, assuming you're playing Ravnos
disciplines on him - Chimerstry has Fata Morgana and Mirror Image which
cost a blood, Smoke and Mirrors which requires Anarch, and Occlusion
which requires CHI. (And Tumnimos, unlike some baby makers, requires
the discipline card from your hand.)
Since you'll likely be playing a variety of stealth for the baby maker,
the baby may not always have a Mirror Image to hand for hunting, and
letting them cycle one card when you block that action isn't altogether
a bad trade-off.
The Setites have a somewhat easier time of it, if they play Obf on the
Waters. Other disciplines are played, though, so you might sneak in
when a Dominate or Serpentis card goes down, or whatever.
Essentially, you wouldn't do it all the time or be able to do it all the
time, but you *could* do it when the time was right without raising too
much by way of card cycling problems. Which seems mostly okay.

If only Tumninos were affected by Path of Paradox. Oh, wait, they
are :). I know what you're saying, though. I built a Group 4 Tumninos
deck that used OBF in addition to chi/CHI. It would have been easy to
choke on OBF had my main stealth card not been Cloak.
