A few questions

I have questions regarding blood to water and thoughts betrayed. When is it appropriate to play a blood to water, can I play a combat ends card to prevent it's effects? Does it have to be played after strikes are declared? Also, if all of a vampires blood is burned is the vampire burned? (It might say this on the card, I don't have one.) With a thoughts betrayed, can a minion not use cards such as elysium or equipment? A question with change of target. If I announce that I am equipping a minion and my opponent blocks with a intercept card, then I play a change of target, is my equipment card lost? Also, if I announce I am equipping do I have to specify which card I am equipping with? Also political actions, retainers, allies? Thank you kevestun

Re: Blood to Water From LSJ's errata list: -Blood to Water [AH] - Combat (th): - The "otherwise" refers to the opposing minion *being* an Ally. - Blood to Water won't burn vampires. [TOM 960607] - Can't be used at long range. [RTR 960708] - Can't be played until range is set. [RTR 961113] Re: Thoughts Betrayed, The phrase playing cards refers only to cards in hand, permanents in play are not excluded by TB, including Elysium and Equipment. >A question with change of target. Also, if I announce I am equipping do >I have to specify which card I am equipping with? Also political actions, >retainers, allies? Action, retainer, equipment, ally cards, etc. are lost to Change of Target, and are discarded when CoT is played. In vampire, ALL cards are revealed immediately upon playing, when the action is announced. Regards, R. Sorry, netscape news is making a hash of the editing. Okie, where to start? Blood to water may be played in the second round of combat. It may only be played when combat is at close range (errata). Therefore it is played after range is determined, and sits in its own phase with immortal grapple. The rulebook is a hack, a vampire that suffers a burn blood effect can only lose as many blood as will take it down to 0. So, if I have Don Cruez on 4 blood, ready to kick some head, and the tremere schmo that im fighting blood to waters me, Don loses 4 blood, the other 1 pt being ignored. Don does not go to torpor from this effect , although unless he has a dodge card, hes prob going to torpor from the strike (i'd burn him personally, but I loooove walk of flame). The nasty text on the blood to water card refers to allies, who if they lose their life, die. sad no? So to recap (in didactic mode), BtW is played after range but before strikes, so you cant stop it with a combat ends (nasty or what?). And an ally that loses all their life dies, but a vamp who is reduced to 0 blood is just in big trouble. >With a thoughts betrayed, can a > minion not use cards such as elysium or equipment? Can a minion _not_ use cards? an interesting way of asking :> Thoughts betrayed prevents you from playing any cards, it has no effect on cards already in play. The Elysium works just fine against TB, in fact its one of the very few defenses. Equipment also functions normally, maneuvers, presses, damage, the works. > A question with change of target. If I announce that I am equipping a > minion and my opponent blocks with a intercept card, then I play a change > of target, is my equipment card lost? Also, if I announce I am equipping do > I have to specify which card I am equipping with? Also political actions, > retainers, allies? To answer the last bit first- It is standard ruling that you must play all cards face up. When you vote show the card, when you equip show the card etc. For a vote, though, you dont have to nominate terms until blocking has been declined. It is one of those nice features of the game that you can table talk as much as you like- "Im just about to call a vote, its a disputed territory, the nasty tremere player who was about to block me is going to get the information highway from the giovanni over there." Of course, being a methusela you can always just lie. As for change of target, the action was more blocked than nullified, so you lose the card that you were about to play. > Thank you > > kevestun No prob, James B.

No. B2W resolves before strikes. After strikes are declared? No. But it does have to be after range is set. > Also, if all of a vampires blood is burned is the vampire burned? (It might No. Only Allies are burned by B2W directly. (A Vampire can be burned if he is is the target of an Anathema, for instance). > say this on the card, I don't have one.) With a thoughts betrayed, can a > minion not use cards such as elysium or equipment? The minion can use cards like equipment, and the Methuselah can use/play cards like Elysium (or Frenzy). The minion (and only the minion) is prevented from *playing* cards, but not using them or benefiting from them. > A question with change of target. Also, if I announce I am equipping do It is burned, yes. > I have to specify which card I am equipping with? Also political actions, > retainers, allies? Yes. All cards are played face up. All actions are completely defined at the time the action is taken (except for declaring the terms of a vote). -- L.
