And especially do not cross post to both groups. If I (or anyone else) wants
to buy or trade cards, I'll go look in the marketplace!

I've been playing Jyhad for about two months now, but still have some
questions which the rules don't explain clearly enough for me.
Combat ---
Strikes are supposed to be resolved simultaneously, but how are
they supposed to be chosen? Who has to play their strike card
first? As far as I can tell, we might just both sit there
staring at eachother waiting for the other to commit to
something.
Second, how do you handle extra strikes when the first round of
combat occurs at range? If he shoots his shotgun at long range
and i dodge with my first strike, and use my hands for my
second, do i connect?
Voting ---
It says in the rules that votes can only be blocked before the
terms of the vote are set. So if I call a vote with Jing Wei
and she is block, can I call the same vote with Dr. John because
I haven't actually played the vote card? Or am I supposed to
loose it?
Second, if I have Elder Kindred Network, a reaction card, can
I play it if someone calls a blood hunt on one of my minions
during my own turn? (The rules say I can only play reaction
cards to react to other meth.'s minions during another's turn.)
Mask of 1,000 Faces ---
Can this card be used to do things that the vampire wouldn't
normally be able to do? In one game, a vampire with a shotgun
revealed himself to be the Muddled Vampire Hunter who had just
started an attack against my Masika. He then attacked with
the MVH again. (ouch). This would seem to suggest that any
vamp with level 2 obfuscate could use Thadius Zho's power to
tap and remove 1 blood from any vampire, then Thadius could
take the same action.
Trap ---
Does this card mean that noone CAN play any cards? Or does it
mean that I can play cards, but combat is going to be pressed
for another round and not count for towards the 3 rounds trap
lasts? This card is perhaps one of the worst worded cards
IMHO.
Charnas the Imp ---
Someone tell me what this card does. Heh. I play a Tremere
only deck, and it's the only Tremere card I haven't seen.
Thanks. (A famous R. Quaid combined with the Chantry and
Bursts of Sunlight rock btw.)

The acting minion always chooses first (range, strike, press). For range
and press, it isn't quite as important because you can keeping playing
maneuvers and presses until you are both done.

You chose range at the beginning of the round of combat. All strikes that
round are the same range. (Next round that might change.)

This should be played by laying the vote card face down on the table and
declaring which vampire is voting. If it's blocked the vote card is burnt.
(This prevents fun 'cheats' like my declaring a vote for Praxis Seizure:
Miami and then burning a Cunctator Motion when the vote is blocked. Of
course, I haven't seen an official ruling on this part of it. A vote card
definitely gets burnt if the vote is blocked.

Yes, but a bloodhunt is not an action taken by a minion. Methuselah's call
bloodhunt and use the votes they have from titled vampires, vote cards and
the edge.
L> Mask of 1,000 Faces ---
[I don't understand this one, so I'll pass.]

You can both keep playing cards. Combat continues for three more rounds
after the last card is played. Note: I believe Trap can be countered by a
press to end combat. (Anyone?)
As far as wording, we can start a war on which is the least clear
(Rotshrek). Then we can try to find the most obscure rule.

Vamp doing the action always declares stuff first.(this one is in the rule
book)

Extra strikes are at the same range, your hands do not connect (this one is
also in the rule book)

The action(calling a vote) failed, so you burn the action card, which in this
case is the vote card.

You cannot react to votes that methusalah's call(bloodhunts only basically)
therefore you cannot use elder kindred network. For bloodhunt votes, you can
only burn vote cards to gain votes and use ventrue HQ if you have that.
(also in the rule book)

Dunno about this one, your right it is pretty sketchy. BUt I would imagine
that you use the real vamp's abilities...if the vampire can't do said ability,
it won't do anything anyway(ie if a malk revealed himself to be Thad. removing
a blood, he would do squat).

Everytime you play a card, combat continues for three rounds after
that(assuming no one hits torpor). BTW, undead persistence is worded pretty
badly too.

You bring out charnas with one of your own tremere, and then place it on
another minion. Each time that minion untaps, it loses 1 blood(very effective
for masika and annoying minions like garou and thad). 1 Q I have with this
card is if you have two vamps, vamp 1 has charnas on him, vamp 2 has a magnum.
Can you have vamp 1 do an action and vamp2 block it and kill charnas that way?
ie can you block your own actions? (seems silly yes, but it never says you
can't).
Ladyfinger <hots...@iastate.edu> wrote:

The acting player always decides first whether to maneuver, whether to press,
and which strike to use.

> combat occurs at range? If he shoots his shotgun at long range

No. Once range has been chosen, the entire round is at that range.
The next round, if any, starts at close range and can be maneuvered normally.

You're misinterpreting what's meant by "terms". When a minion takes a
political action, you lose the relevant vote card from your hand (unless
you're voting to burn Anarch Revolt or something), just as you would lose
a Computer Hacking or Bum's Rush or whatever as soon as you used it.
However, if the vote involves any kind of decision (the clan to pick for
Consanguineous Boon, the player and location of Disputed Territory, etc)
then those choices are only made if it's determined the action won't
be blocked. You can announce intentions before then, of course, but the
actual choice isn't made until the vote actually begins.
> Second, if I have Elder Kindred Network, a reaction card, can
> I play it if someone calls a blood hunt on one of my minions> during my own turn?...
No. First off, you can't use reaction cards of any kind during your turn.
Second, calling a bloodhunt vote is not an action, so action modifiers and
reactions may not be used during that vote.
>Mask of 1,000 Faces ---
> Can this card be used to do things that the vampire wouldn't> normally be able to do?...
Yes.
>Trap ---
> Does this card mean that noone CAN play any cards? Or does it

It means that if any cards have been played within the last 3 rounds,
the round has a free press to continue.

Yeah, I only have one burst of sunlight so what I do is put fame on
Roreca and give her Talbot's chainsaw. She does three damage to herself
every turn and then the chantry brings her out the next. Automatic 3
points of pain per turn for my prey. Needless to say everyone is very
eager to diablerize Roreca, but with the intercept of the Tremeres Vulnerability
is the only surefire way to get rid of this nasty combo.

I think I'd better change my mind on this one. Our group has now decided
that since the vote card gives you the action that the card must be played
face up, so that everyone knows what vote it is. If the vote is not
blocked, you can then "set the terms" of the vote -- what exactly you are
doing.

Hmmm... I don't think the vote action should be played face down. It's
fair for the players to know what the vote is so they can decide whether
to block it before the terms are set. Seems like playing the vote card
face down would *allow* your "fun cheats" rather than prevent them.

When a vampire takes a political action, everyone knows what that
action is: Disputed Territory vs. Parity Shift vs. "burn that anarch revolt".
It's just that if there are any choices involved (such as which player
gets which location), those choices are only made if the action goes
unblocked, and the vote begins.
