Can Forger's Hammer be played after Gift of Bellona (VAL)? GoBs' text seems too amply that it is played from your hand. Also, GoB has equip is its function, but is it "successfully"? Or is "successfully" a term that is linked to an unblocked action? Thank you in advance, Matt Gift of Bellona [VAL] Only usable when an action to equip with a weapon from your hand is blocked. Before combat begins, equip this vampire with the weapon instead of placing it in your ash heap (pay cost as normal). During the first round of this combat, that weapon cannot be used. Forger's Hammer Only usable when this vampire successfully equips with a non-unique melee weapon from your hand. [pot] Put this card on the weapon. This weapon inflicts +1 damage each strike. [POT] As above, and the cost of this weapon is reduced by 1 blood or 1 pool.

A melee Weapon acquired by Gift of Bellona is equiped, but not "successfully". I thought as much, just wanted it to be clear. Matt

Yes. > Or is "successfully" a term that is linked to an unblocked action? Damage can be successfully inflicted, equipment successfully equipped, and block attempts successfully executed. For Forger's Hammer, the word occurs on the card text to prevent it from being played as an equip action is announced, since the equipment is not successfully equipped at that time. Gift of Bellona is played before combat, so Forger's Hammer is legal. The card text above appears to be from the Third Ed printing and does not match the official text in the WW card list (which I assume is from LotN -- don't have a copy on me to check right now). The official text is: Only usable when an action to equip a non-unique melee weapon from your hand is successful. [pot] Put this card on the weapon. This weapon inflicts +1 damage each strike. [POT] As above, and the cost of this weapon is reduced by 1 blood or 1 pool. See http://www.secretlibrary.info/index.php?lib=1686. This will probably affect the ruling quite substantially (since the ruling was based on incorrect card text). Schiavo Simon

Card text indeed answers the question directly, as you note.
