Scott, I was digging through my cards to put in my funky Followers of Set/Giovanni deck, and ran across Summon the Serpent which is obviously printed incorrectly because it has a clan symbol (FoS) and superior text on the card. I looked in the official rulings and Tom Wylie made the following ruling: Summon the Serpent [AH] - Action (FoS) (2) * Ignore the superior version text on Summon the Serpent. [TOM 960604] Why did he not rule in favor of removing the clan symbol and replacing it with a discipline symbol (like Serpentis)? It makes sense to me that the creators of the card intended for it to be an action with a discipline instead of a clan requirement b/c I believe it is much easier to accidentally put the wrong symbol on the card than to accidentally add superior text. Does this argument carry any weight or is it just wishful thinking? If anyone else has any ideas, feel free to chime in... Robert F. "Rob" Grau PS Thanks for running the tourney in SC this weekend. I had fun.

Errata had to be issued, he felt that this was simpler (easier to remember). > It makes sense to me that the creators of the card intended for it to be > an action with a discipline instead of a clan requirement b/c I believe > it is much easier to accidentally put the wrong symbol on the card than > to accidentally add superior text. The explanation is that is was being considered as a sperpentis card at one point, but a decision was made to have it be a Settite card. The card text wasn't fixed after the change. > PS Thanks for running the tourney in SC this weekend. I had fun. Yeah, so did I. I look forward to the next one. -- L. Going strictly on the card, you do have to ignore the superior. Obviously, from our point of view, it makes much more sense to make it usable by Serpentis (and possibly more useful) but that involves the Rules Team making a ruling, something which a netrep cannot do. >It makes sense to me that the creators of the card intended for it to be >an action with a discipline instead of a clan requirement b/c I believe >it is much easier to accidentally put the wrong symbol on the card than >to accidentally add superior text. Does this argument carry any weight >or is it just wishful thinking? I think, as LSJ has said before, the intention of a card holds considerably less weight (compared to how a card can be strictly interpreted) than it should. -- James Coupe (change "nospam" to "obeah" to reply by e-mail) You were my strength when I was weak. Since the card offers the player two options, it would make at least as much sense to rule that the player gets to pick either one. Since the card offers the player two options, it -would make at least as much sense to rule that the player gets to pick -either one. Who would ever choose the first option???? One house rule the Capitol Hill Coterie used was to define a Superior Follower of Set as a FOS with a capacity of 6 or more. This makes the card work in a similar fashion to Nosferatu Performance Art, with a basic action and a better action when taken by an older vampire. Carpe Noctem.
