Is the damage from a shoulder drop (and a variety of "during the press step" type cards) unpreventable by default as prevention is a part of strike resolution and the text of Shoulder Drop reads "Card Text: Grapple. Play when you successfully inflict damage from a hand strike. After strike resolution, if this minion is still ready, the opposing minion takes 1 additional damage. The opposing minion cannot press this round. A minion may play only one Shoulder Drop each strike." I guess this would also apply to some other cards (most of which state the damage is unpreventable anyway) that inflict damage outside of combat. Jonathan

Shoulder Drop resolves during combat, not after, and can therefore be prevented by combat cards that prevent damage, or other during combat damage prevention. -witness1

[ quoted text not captured ] But not by cards that prevent damage STRIKES. One use I found for it is as a 'trick' card with potence/disarm. [Meth 1 vamp in a fight Meth 2 vamp Meth 1: "Hands for 1" Meth 2: <Have to make sure damage is equal or less to avoid disarm>"Hands for 1" Meth 1: "No prevent" Meth 2: "No prevent" <Still equal in damage.> Meth 1: Shoulder Drop. Extra damage then disarm.

The damage from Shoulder Drop is environmental and therefor Disarm doesn't check it when looking to total the amount of damage. Comments Welcome, Norman S. Brown, Jr XZealot Archon of the Swamp

[ quoted text not captured ] Ooooh... that would suck. Can I get a confirmation please? It is dependent on the hand strike being successful (not sure why that would matter, but here's hoping!)

Damage from other effects is considered "environmental," and has no particular source. [RTR 19970630] Shoulder Drop is not a strike. It doesn't specifically state that the damage is dealt by the minion. It therefore isn't dealt by the minion. -- James Coupe PGP Key: 0x5D623D5D YOU ARE IN ERROR.
