Daring the Dawn + Skin of Night

Have a question. Someone played this in our group. If I use daring the dawn can I also play skin of night to change it from agg. to normal damage and still take the damage since it's not preventable. It is changeable by effects that can change it at the time it is dealt. As above, effects that are only usable during combat can only be used during combat. > Or again only via HoD? Correct.
