As many people know, WotC had to shut down all of its mailing lists a few months ago. This is because the mailing lists were generating so much mail that the machine couldn't process it all, and corporate mail was being lost on top of that. Thus the mailing lists were shut down until we could upgrade the software and create a dedicated machine. This process has finally been completed, and the mailing lists below have been reactivated. Further mailing lists will be reactivated during the upcoming weeks. However, one should not expect mailing lists to just start sending mail again. The reason the mailing lists crashed in the first place is that they were choked with "addressee unknown" messages and so forth due to invalid addresses. When we tried to restart the lists recently, the same thing happened all over again. So the subscription lists have been wiped clean, and everyone interested in these lists will have to resubscribe. We apologize for the inconvenience, but it was really the only way to get the mailing lists operational again. The following lists have been reactivated. General instructions on using the listserver follow. Veterans of the mailing lists should note that mail should be sent to list...@oracle.wizards.com, not list...@wizards.com, to minimize the risk of confusion. ARS-MAGICA-L Ars Magica Discussion List EVERWAY-L Everway Discussion List MTG-AUCTION-L Magic: the Gathering Auction list EVERWAY-L Everway Discussion List MTG-AUCTION-L Magic: the Gathering Auction list MTG-L Magic: the Gathering MTG-STRATEGY-L Magic: The Gathering, strategy discussion MTG-TRADING-L Magic: the Gathering Trading list VTES-L Vampire: The Eternal Struggle Discussion List VTES-STRATEGY-L Vampire: The Eternal Struggle, Strategy discussion list /* ** Generic internet help file follows */ The following is a list of electronic network services available to fans of Magic: The Gathering, Jyhad/Vampire: The Eternal Struggle, and other products of Wizards of the Coast. We have a variety of electronic mailing lists available. mtg-l is for general discussion of Magic: The Gathering, including rules questions. This is a high-volume list. mtg-strategy-l is for advanced discussion of Magic: The Gathering strategy. Its volume is lower than mtg-l. vtes-l is for general discussion of Jyhad, including rules questions. At the present, it is not a particularly high-volume list, but Jyhad is a new game. vtes-strategy-l is for advanced discussions of Jyhad strategy. mtg-trading-l is for people wanting to trade either Jyhad or Magic: The Gathering cards. This list emphasises card- for-card trades and small sales (less than 10 cards) mtg-auction-l emphasizes card-for-cash deals and includes large sales and auctions. NOTE: the final character in all of these lists is a lowercase L, not a numeral 1. To subscribe to any of these lists, send an e-mail message to list...@oracle.wizards.com The subject line should be blank, and the message should contain nothing but the line subscribe <list> YourRealName where <list> is the name of the list you want and YourRealName is actually what you want to be called by others on the list. To find out what other mailing lists exist, send the following command in the message body: list To get a list of general commands, send this command in the message body: help In addition, there are a series of newsgroups branching from rec.games.trading-cards, dedicated to trading card games. Trading and auctions can be found on rec.games.trading-cards.marketplace, for example, and Magic rules discussions could be found on rec.games.trading-cards.magic.rules. Most of these groups have heavy traffic. In addition, we have discussion groups for Magic: The Gathering and Jyhad on CompuServe, GEnie, Prodigy, America Online, The Imagination Network, and Illuminati Online. All of our discussion groups are monitored by an official Wizards of the Coast Network Representative (NetRep). Finally, for people who know how to use anonymous FTP, there's an archive of Magic- and Jyhad-related material at marvin.macc.wisc.edu. Now that it's been demonstrated the listserv won't choke on invalid addresses anymore, most of the other mailing lists have been restored. [ quoted text not captured ]
