Malkavian Time Auction

I've a question on this card (Which I first received a few hours ago) which I'd like answered before I play it. If I open an auction, can I bid for my own card? For those of you without the card, I'll quote the relevant text ``Select a card you control. Starting to your left, and proceeding clockwise, Methuselahs bid pool for control of that card. Highest bidder takes control of the card, but you collect bids from the last two bidders'' IN FAVOR OF IT: It's not explicitly forbidden, and it prevents me from loosing a valuable card for 1 blood if the other players decide only one of them will bid (A very likely possibility with the 2 other people I play with, especially if I'm perceived to be winning). AGAINST IT: If I have more blood, I can wait until the auction is done, and then bid all of my blood. I keep the card I bid, and get the highest bidder's blood. If possible I'd like an official ruling. It seems likely that this situation came up earlier, but I couldn't find mention of it in the FAQ. This kind of card, and the other Malkavian cards are very interesting (and add something to the game) but they're most likely to lead to odd situations like this one. Neil

I would imagine not, b/c no matter what happens you can basically "take" blood from the last person to bid b/c you can bid more then you have(b/c its going back to your pool so you never are empty). Kinda silly to play it in small games I would imagine.

If I open an auction, NFR> can I bid for my own card? I assume players can bid Zero for it as well? I would hate to give away a card without SOME compensation. Also, what if I auction off a piece of equipment or a retainer? Does the winning Methuselah get to decide on which vampire it goes? -- Jack Vinson "You have to be sleeping with vin...@unagi.cis.upenn.edu at least one person to be http://www.cis.upenn.edu/~vinson/home.html non-monogamous." Yes, a player can bid zero during a Time Auction. >Also, what if I auction off a piece of equipment or a retainer? Does the >winning Methuselah get to decide on which vampire it goes? Unsure what, exactly, would happen here. I'll ask. Tom Wylie rec.games.trading-cards.* Network Representative for aa...@hal.com Wizards of the Coast, Inc.

I received a reply about my question, thought I'd repost it here in case others wondered about the answer: >> From: Rules_Q...@wizards.com (Rules Questions) >> Subject: Re: Malkavian Time Auction >> To: n...@ober.cs.columbia.edu >> Date: Wed, 7 Dec 94 09:10:03 PDT >> >> If I open an auction, can I bid for my own >> card? >> Sure, once bidding passes around the table back to you.
