It's broken! You can't have crypt cards that don't have vampires on
them! It says so right on the back of the card! :)

*begin sarcasm* Oh no, how will I handle 60 new cards only 6 months

Now I'm really glad so many people went nuts a few weeks ago when the
set name was announced with no surrounding info. Wait until you see the
sky actually fall before you go screaming from the mountaintops.
If you want to go nuts because you can have Hunters in your
uncontrolled region, you can go a little nuts, but wait for real
details before you go completely nuts, please. :)

Hmmm... It could be for the greater good.
But personally I hope all Hunter crypt cards are comprised of low caps
with little or no access at all to disciplines.
I wonder if these Hunters are liable to torpor somehow. If they don't,
why should they be crypt cards instead of regular allies? And if they
go to torpor, I'd prefer to have different terms and rules for handling

My guess is that the blood on Hunters will become life when they are
brought into play, and that they will be treated as allies while in
play. Chances are they either will not have disciplines, or will have
some of the Hunter disciplines (I forget what they were called - only
skimmed through the Hunter book once and that was a while ago). IMHO,
I think the only difference between Hunters and regular allies will be
that Hunters are brought into play using transfers rather than an
action. And the fact that they exist will allow you to play decks
without vamps where the Hunters recruit other allies and go crazy.
Mortals in crypt, WTF?! I think that idee sucks ass. Next we will see
fuzzies, fae, mages, eastern 'vampires' as a crypt and we can change
game name from VtES to WoD.
What about agrro damage? You can send even 11cap vamp to Torpor with
only single aggro poke and eat it then. Single mortal stronger than
vampire. Extremely funny.

I don´t expect them to be allies in play. If thry are to be a real

This is a non-sequitur. With or without mortals or allies, a single point
of agg damage could theoretically send any sized vampire to torpor, and the
risk of diablerie was there. 11 cap's vulnerability to this hasn't changed
one way or the other, with the announcement of NoR...

Don't forget, there already is a Hunter/Mortal crypt card. Sonja Blue.
So it might not be as bad. Though thematically, I prefer the game

Her card text even includes the term "remains a vampire", in addition
to having a capacity instead of life, and lacking the "mortal"

she's a "Hunter/Mortal crypt card"???
Chris Berger escreveu:

And what about the steal/burn allies cards out there, as someone
pointed out?
Don't know. If all Hunters Crypt cards are low caps, it could still be
worthwhile since you don't need to bother to pass an action to have
them in play, which is already an advantage even if they turn into
allies when controlled. Not to mention that the allure of having an
all-Hunter deck is enough to make some players use them even at the
risk of losing them via Far Mastery, Entrancement and so on.
But I'd prefer them to have special rules as crypt cards. A few tricks
could handle this...
- Hunters go to the "torpor" region, but they're considered
"hospitalized" or somesuch.
- Hunters can be "diablerized", but there's no "Blood Hunt".
- Only Hunters can "rescue" other Hunters from "hostitalized" state, or
they can't even be rescued at all as a built-in action (you would need
theme cards to do this).
And such things. But these are just random ideais, I didn't thought
that hard on other consequences to the game as a whole. Maybe the free
diablerie is too much pressure on the Hunters.
Oh, and I believe the Hunter "disciplines" are called Convinctions, but
I'm not sure. What I do recall is that their powers are HUGE for a
mortal in a tabletop game. If they are to appear in this expansion at
the same power level, I'd say that the "Convinctions" will be on par to
many vampire disciplines. I'd rather keep the way the Abominations were
translated to the game - using normal vampiric disciplines to
"translate" their capabilities.

I didn't mean that. It's probably my poor English. It was an vampire
combat example. Vamp can inflict 1 aggro on other vamp, put it in
Torpor and Diablerize.
Vampire probably will not able to make the same against Hunter.

Point of fact, I'm a fastidiously neat eater. I hardly need napkins.
But actually that's not what's going on in that picture. I showed up for

Some things get made before the rules are ready to change (assuming
there will be special rules for Hunters vs regular allies). Sometimes
they get retrofitted (Ancient Hearts vampires called Non-Camarilla,
later changed to Independent after Sabbat became a Sect), sometimes
they don't.

You would prefer the game to not have Laibon or Bloodlines, but would
like KoE if they can pull it off? Did they not "pull it off" with

A vampire can't do that to regular allies either, and they've always
been around with no problem to the game state.
I can't recall how many times an ally with more than 1 life has saved a
vampire's ass by blocking a Bum's Rush from an aggropokin' vampire.
If the hunter crypt card is to turn into an ally once it's influenced,
nothing has changed on the combat area. A vampire will have to empty
the Hunter's life if he wants to kill them, just as he has to do with
Carlton van Wyk or a Wendell Delburton.
If the hunter crypt card is to function under regular vampire crypt
cards rules (i.e., it goes to torpor and such), these hunters have an
advantage over regular hunter allies (they don't burn automatically if
they lose all life) but a significant disadvantage (they are liable to
be torporized by aggropoke no matter how many life they have). And that
does not even consider the diablerie part - I doubt diablerizing a
hunter crypt card (if it will be possible) will merit a Blood Hunt.
In short, any way I can visualize the thing, it does not seem to turn
Hunter crypt cards any more powerful than a regular vampire or hunter
ally card. Unless the rules for them are completely alien - but we'll
have to wait and see anyway.

It's unlikely hunters will be allies (unless they're immune to effects
like Entrancement). They'll probably be a new minion type (call it
'hunter' or 'imbued' or whatever) in addition to vampires and allies,
with some pseudo-disciplines (edges)of their own. They may be able to
play cards that cost blood (but not specifically a vampire) like
Legwork or Neighborhood Watch Commander by spending life instead, which
would be cool. Their 'edges' may just be new disciplines, capable of
being copied by Ian, Infernal Familiar/Pact, and Spontaneous Power, or
they may be played similarly but termed differently so that those
effects don't apply. Either would be fine with me, since those effects
already represent odd ways of getting supernatural power not normally
available. The only problem I'd have is Ian getting Spontaneous Power
and Sanguine Instructing, but that'd be pretty rare anyway.
Likely, Hunter edge/discipline cards will have outferiors of some sort
for the same reason the bloodlines disciplines did. IIRC there are only
nine 'paths' of hunter edges, and it may be that not all of them make
it into this 60-card set.

I'm pretty certain they'll be balanced (maybe more powerful than the
average ally card). The development team's been pretty good at that. If
nothing else, they'll be underpowered (due primarily to having less
options available to them) and get boosted up to match other strategies
as things play out in the tournament scene (or not, if this bombs
totally and nobody likes it).

A few *more* official words were pretty much advised since this launch

Despite this is probably an interesting expansion (demanded by many

Very likely 3-4. This would make them playable with the vampires of the
last several expansions out of the box. There's (AFAIK) no other real
consideration since all groups are currently empty of these 'clans'.
They may go back to 2-3 or even 1-2 but it's unlikely that they'll
spread out among more than two groups (because then you get crypt cards
that can't be played together in the same expansion, which is generally
to be avoided).

Another option that occurs to me, is that with 60 cards in the set, and
possibly no actual vampires at all, there may be a total of 10 hunters,
say. It seems to me there need to be cards in that set other than those
dealing with the new card type directly, so maybe 10 hunters, 20
"hunter-irrelevant cards", 25 cards to use with hunters, and 5 cards to
hose the hunters.
At that rate, given that each has his/her special trick (something to
make you want to use them), they might be groupless (not being
vampires, after all) to allow their use in any deck you fancy. That
would support you either splashing a hunter into a deck, or building a
hunter centered deck, with or without vampires alongside. (which might
make 12 a more likely number)
To limit their use to G3/4 in such a small set, where a fair amount of
the set must also support this new card type, would tend to reduce
their potential IMHO. Though some in each and every group might work,
or maybe hunters in groups 2 and group 4, or groups 1 and 3.

What? You've not been watching the last few expansions very closely
then: the rule seems to be to always have at least one random
out-of-group-pair vampire in the expansions these days (ONE group 2
vampire in LoB that is otherwise almost entirely group 4, for example,
five G2 vampires in KMW which is also otherwise almost entirely G4)
On past performance there will be 8 group 4 hunters, 2 group 3 hunters
and a single hunter for groups 1 and 2. Plus a promo-only hunter for
group 7 that is non-unique, probably with a built in +3 stealth action
to become a vampire, picking clan, sect and 3 superior disciplines,
just for the ebay sellers to pimp... (alright; i went well overboard
there, but reducto ad absurdum is fair play in my book)
Although you did say "to be avoided", if only the designers thought
that clearly, eh?

Right. There were exceptions for Abominations (a new scarce clan) and
Advanced versions of previously printed vampires. So, out of LoB there
was only one guy who couldn't be played with the rest, instead of a
third of them not being playable with another third of them.
Since there was an exception for Abominations, there may be exceptions
here. But I expect not, since I don't expect Hunters to be scarce
(i.e., there's no reason for there to be only one of them in a group,
or only two in a grouping pair).

Only if there were previous hunters in group 1-2 to advance would they
likely do that. There's not. Nor is there any reason to print a group 2
hunter to fill out the 2-3 group like they did with Abominations (since
it would take much more than just one to do the trick).
> Although you did say "to be avoided", if only the designers thought

To be avoided in general. It has to happen if previous vampires are to
be updated with advanced versions, at least if the designers are
thinking clearly.

Just to nitpick, that wasn't a reducto ad absurdum. The Latin meaning
of absurd is "without cause", referring to something that exists
without having been put into motion by something else. God is thus
considered "absurd" in the classic sense. The existentialists, who
removed the possibility for a higher creator or meaning for the
universe likewise concluded that the entire universe was an absurdity.
Reducing something to absurdity means that you're simply assuming its
existence without any need to explain it or justify that it is there.
It's very clear that the demented promo hunter you invented would have
been put into motion by a creator--specifically the design team.
But yes, it would be "absurd" in the more common sense of the term.

The announcement says that there's 20 Hunter crypt cards, which I
wouldn't expect to be duplicative of each other, so say 20 hunters. No

They'll probably just be allies when they're transfering into play.
Hell, why restrict yourself to Vampires in the crypt. Start throwing
Black Spiral Dancer Den or The Hutt of Baba Yaga or crap in that brown
backed deck. Heck, start putting action mods in there. I mean, we
already have vampires in our library. (kind of...). Nothing new here.

Well like the age old saying:
Life's a bitch!
Then you get new cards.
