Last week sometime I posted a question on multiple strikes. I now realize I've been playing Jyhad wrong all the time. However, with the rule that only ONE additional strike card can be played during a round of combat. My friend and I have come up with a question. Suppose we have two vampires both with superior celerity. We each hit the other during strike phase with our claws. We both play blur. We both hit each other again. For the last strike, I hit my opponents vampire, but he wants to play Acrobatics for a dodge. Can this be done? I think YES, because (unlike MAGIC) you don't have to use all of what is specified on the card. ie. Anarch Troublemaker can be used to tap one minion. Any ideas? Gord

If you play the inferior version "Strike : Dodge." then you can use it, as you don't use the card to get the additional strike. Scott. --

Well, you could if the inferior version said "Strike: Dodge" But it doesn't. It says: "Additional Strike" -- ----- L. Does the DTR ruling on being able to use cards when only part of the cards effect can be played mean that you can opt to do only part of the effect (ie tap one with the troublemaker when two are untapped) or does it only mean you can play cards who's full effect can't be carried out (ie use troublemaker when there is only one minion to tap). If the former is the case I don't see why you could not use Acrobatics strike dodge, even if you had already played an additional strike. And your not playing it 'wrong' just with an alternate rule set :) Steven Bauer ba...@wiliki.eng.hawaii.edu

It looks like it's going to come down to card by card decisions, where some cards (ie. troublemaker) can be used for partial affect, and other cards (ie. domain) have to meet all contions on the card. I don't know where Acrobatic strike will fall. If anyone can see a patern other than memorizing card by card rulings please let me know, as I'm pretty confused about it right now. Essentially, you aren't free to choose which parts of a card's effects happen. If part of card's effects just don't work (because of a lack of target, etc.), that's okay; that part just fizzles. However, if part of a card's effects would be _illegal_ (additonal strike from Acrobatics after a Blur, +2 intercept from 2nd Tradition against a 0 stealth action), then you can't just voluntarily ignore that part; you can't play the card. Tom is free to correct me on this, of course. :-) --- Eric Pettersen pe...@cgl.ucsf.edu (NeXTmail capable)

[ quoted text not captured ] Hi Eric, OK, that sounds pretty reasonable. Thanks for the explanation. I'm still not sure that I like the idea that needing intercept is a requirement to use the card, but at least this explanation gives me some kind of working rule of thumb.
