Mask of 1000 Faces

I have a couple of questions concerning the Mask of a Thousand Faces. First, is this card as versatile as it seems?? Could I use it between combat rounds?? Could I use it after range was chosen but before the strike was chosen?? Could I use it after the strike was chosen but before damage was assigned?? Could I use it after the "acting minion" was unblocked but before the action resolved? Help me out, s'il vous plait. Secondly, the MoaTF has a superior ability, which is "as above, with +1 stealth". Since this is not an action card, but rather an action modifier, I didn't think the "untapped minion other than the acting minion" would need stealth. I am confused. TIA, Madman -- Posted via Talkway - http://www.talkway.com Exchange ideas on practically anything (tm).

Examples: Leandro finishes Atonement (this one was in another thread recently). Leandro finishes Femur of Toomler. Leandro finishes 5th Tradition. How about this one: Leandro with one blood on him finishes Memory's Fading Glimpse? Can he try but fail because he can't pay or is he unable to do it at all? Can several vamps each play M1000 once on the same action (like with Cloak)? If I play it when someone tries to block without stealthing up past their current intercept, is that person still trying to block or can he say "No thanks. I'd rather not fight Cailean. Cailean is the baddest combat bitch in the game and will make my precious little Lupo the Vamp of 1000 Pieces." If he is allowed to wimp out, I'll consider this card the Mask of 1000 Feces. NaTe W

What if Leandro has a Blood Tears of Kephran? Alternatively, what if it's Darius instead and has the option of using Masochism or Ravnos Cache (I hope that's the right one)? Can he take over the action (assuming he has obfuscate) with insufficient blood, but enough counters from other sources to pull off the action? Can he then choose not to pay with the counters and make the action fizzle? Justicar. [ quoted text not captured ]

He still can't Mask unless he has three blood. Having Blood Tears is not the same as having blood. Masochism is only useful when the card is played - that is, when the action is announced (for action cards). -- LSJ (vte...@wizards.com) V:TES Net.Rep for Wizards of the Coast. Typically, some other effect would have to interfere (like damage in combat, followed by Form of Mist, etc.) If something happens before resolution that causes you to lose blood, that 's one thing, but you cannot yourself back out of paying for a card... No. The counters were burned to reduce the cost of the card. Then, when the action is blocked, you simply fail to pay the (still reduced) cost. [ quoted text not captured ]

You burn counters to reduce the cost when you play the card (i.e. the *other* card, that you're reducing the cost of, not Masochism). That you do not have to pay the cost because the action has failed does not change that - the cost was still reduced. So no, you do not get the counters back. [ quoted text not captured ]

We were paying the counters when the action from successful (i.e., when blood would normally be paid). It's not immediately obvious when the counters should be paid (although it makes sense now).
