question for LSJ

Can i play a claws of the death at long range making my hand damage agg just to cycle cards? If yes, can i play a rötschreck then. i would say yes because the card says play when attempting too use agg damage? If my opponent played skin of night at the beginning of the combat can i play agg damage and rötschreck? thanks stefan
