War Ghoul (Sabbat) 3 pool -- Tzimisce -- Ally Ally with 5 life. 4 <strength>, 0 bleed. When War Ghoul enters play, burn an ally or retainer you control. She can <enter combat with> any vampire <controlled by another Methuselah> as a (D) action. She may prevent 1 damage each round. Tap and burn War Ghoul to burn any location; you cannot use this ability during combat. Is the tap and burn a location considered an action? Sent via Deja.com http://www.deja.com/ Before you buy.

No. The "cannot use this ability during combat" suggests this, as you couldn't take an action during combat anyway. You just tap the War Ghoul and burn a location. -- James Coupe | PGP Key 0x5D623D5D "And all the while I'm thinking things that I can never share with him. I'm a bundle of confusion, yet it has a strange appeal. Did it all begin with him and the way he makes me feel?"

It could have been a blockable action, it still wouldn't have been taken during combat (you cannot take actions during combat anyways, so I always thought of this as an overclarification). For example, before I decline to block your steal my warghoul action at stealth, I can respond by tapping and burning the warghoul to burn your Elysium. Then your action fizzles because there's no longer a target. What I can't do is be in combat see my warghoul about to be taken out then tap him to burn a location. Also, note the text on burn location actions, 'Arson' for example, "(D) Burn a location." Notice that little '(D)' symbol, it makes a huge difference. I've done it in a tourney, and I'll do again if any bastard tries to steal one of my pets. [ quoted text not captured ]

mmm.... Why would you be able to tap and burn your Warghoul in response of someone taking control of it ? do we play VTES: the gathering by now ? I know you ca do so with the book of nod, but it isn't burned as the result of using it. So, one guy is clever enough to manage to steal it, and you can negate his efforts... Too bad... For instance, Computer Hacking does not say "Cannot play during combat", because it is a given. Reminder text is rarely that stupid. The situation it is trying to deal with is the "I'm in combat with my War Ghoul, it's about to get killed, I'll just burn it to get rid of that location. Huzzah!" This is what that text implies or, at least, what I infer from it. [ quoted text not captured ]

The rules only enforce "not during combat". During a blocking phase or a stealth/intercept bidding war is "not during combat". [ quoted text not captured ]

I think it would be less unfair if the sentence also stated "only usable during your turn", so when your Warghoul is stolen, you're screwed. And next time you would take care of your pets a little better. And next >time you would take care of your pets a little better. I would also like to see some degree of modifications. Yes, the Warghoul does seem too much like an M:tG fast effect (wait! As a fast effect I tap my Warghoul and burn whatever). But there is an important catch though! This can ONLY be used when the Warghoul is untapped (since it's a "tap...to..." effect). Thus all you have to do is wait for the Warghoul to become tapped before you try to steal it. And more likely than not, the Warghoul will be tapped (it will be rare for someone to NOT take advantage of its rush capabilities). Or if you really want, I'm sure you could use some action to "tap" the Ghoul and if the controller doesn't burn it, steal it afterward. So overall, although I don't like the wording, this feature of the Warghoul isn't too overpowered because it has to be untapped. Halcyan 2 P.S. Just curious, but wasn't "tap," "tapped," etc. copyrighted terms? Was it simply copyrighted by WotC, or was it specifically copyrighted for each of their games? Or...?

That seems wise to me. Thanks for your contribution. reyda [ quoted text not captured ]
