I ran into this one, and would like a ruling. As it stood an Assamite burned the lovely Joquina Amaya to take care of a short lived Sensory Deprivation. (I didn't think to question the order of play until after the game was over) Joquina played illusions of the kindred (love that card!), combat ends and immediately restarts with a highly disposable vampire (preferably you play a trap at this point). After the combat was over my opponent played Psyche to get into combat with the vampire that he really was after, Joquina. Psyche restarts combat. But in this situation who is the actual combatant? Is there a point in the combat that he could've played Psyche to fight with Joquina? Does Illusions give immunity to such efforts? Somebody argued that psyche could be played immediately after Illusions is played, two combats would be queued up and the Illusionary combat would resolve first, followed by the "real" fight. I argue that psyche just doesn't work, you restart combat with a vampire that is just not there (just as if you tried it after you burned the vamp). And the ruling is...?

Does Illusions give immunity to such efforts? Pshyche (superior) can only be used "at the end of a combat when both combatants are still ready". Since the combatant was the illusionary vampire and is burned at the end of combat (actually, removed from the game), Psyche cannot be played. > > Somebody argued that psyche could be played immediately after Illusions > is played, two combats would be queued up and the Illusionary combat > would resolve first, followed by the "real" fight. Two combats never queue up. If a combat is about to be started (in the case of Illusions), then it starts. There is no "stack" or "queue" of anything in VtES. Once Illusions is resolved, the second combat has already begun (card text on Illusions of Kindred"). > I argue that psyche just doesn't work, you restart combat with a vampire > that is just not there (just as if you tried it after you burned the > vamp). You are correct. > And the ruling is...? The only ruling possible, without errata. This follows easily from card text. -- L. The interpretation that LSJ gives is the only one i can see. Hidden Lurker would still work, as would Fast Reaction for vampires with Auspex.
