Do any of you have any experience in the designing/publishing part of games (apart from the obvious poster above me)? I follow the forums regularly due to dreams of getting my own games published or publish them myself.

On Sep 10, 8:00 am, "Nikolaj \"Lord of the Betrayers\" Wendt" [ quoted text not captured ] There is a guy locally who has been trying his hand at designing games and presenting them to potential publishers, but I am not certain if he has had success with that just yet although he has been trying. In the end it comes down to whether the game is either catchy enough, original, or simply that great of a game (ie. balanced, accessible) so the publisher can make money on it. And sometimes as we all know there are popular games that are definitely not that great, but someone saw money signs because it was "catchy." I like VTES, but I will be first to admit it is far from accessible in some aspects such as older releases and brick and mortar stores you can pick it up at. Secondly the community of players hasn't changed much in volume for years. It can be hard to have a decent group of players or sometimes any at all. Thankfully central Ohio has plenty : ) Lastly I would say VTES can only be so balanced and a game can definitely be somewhat unfair simply due to how someone may play the table (ie. some people are literally there just to wreck someones game). Unfortunately more and more people go strictly digital and ironically see less and less of real people. I am glad to see there are those still pursuing such lofty heights and hoping to get their games published. Good luck to you and best wishes! If you need any help or have some thoughts email me as may be able to help out.

As I continually ask when I see this posted, WHY DO YOU PUT UP WITH THESE PLAYERS??? When you were a little kid and another kid came around to play but he instead stole your bat and ball and never gave them back, did you invite him back to play? Are you that desperate for VTES players that any asshole will do? [ quoted text not captured ] Who said I was desperate? We have quite a few people in central Ohio (more the marry). However, that doesn't mean that someone from outside the local playgroup can't just show up at a tourney and end up wrecking a game. Further, everyone has their angle on what is good and bad calls. Besides, some who play competitively do so under "whatever it takes to win" category which can cause controversy in and of itself. Some people do like to do well in the ratings and every table win and VP helps. For me I want to do my best to oust my prey and recently that meant being my grand prey's tool at the final table, but when all you have is votes and they determine if your vote passes you either don't be a predator and let yourself die or you go forward and splash damage where it needs to go in order for the vote to pass. Either way it unbalances the game a bit. So there you have it.....
