Correct.
Note: The vamps (A and B) don't tap until and unless they successfully
block. You do not tap to attempt to block (otherwise, you couldn't play
the intercept-boosting reaction cards).

It wiggled a little in late 1995/early 1996 (where an error-prone
FAQ listed it the current way, but a net.rep later referred to it
as working the old way several times.)
The current ruling (since mid-1996) is that S:CE does not resolve
when the strike is announced, but rather waits until (the beginning
of) strike resolution to resolve. (And ends combat immediately upon
resolving).

You are correct. The opposing strike *will* resolve if it, too, is
a strike to end combat. (So both minions could untap with superior
Majesty, for instance.)
