Shade damage

Small question: does Shade do damage when the combat is at long range? The card text is: When the minion with this retainer is in combat, the opposing minion takes 1 damage during strike resolution. Which would seem to imply that range doesn't matter, but on the other hands Murder of Crows specifically mentions ranged damage. Hmmm.... //Petri
