How does Flesh of Marble interact with unpreventable damage? I know FoM can't prevent it, but does unpreventable damage count toward the 1 point maximum damage you take? For example, suppose you take 2 points of preventable and 2 points of unpreventable damage. Does FoM ignore the 2 unpreventable and reduce the 2 preventable to 1, or does it reduce the 2 preventable to 0? Next q: Undead Persistence. If vampire with FoM (at superior) takes 1 point of agg dam (and can't prevent it because it hasn't taken yet any unpreventable damage that round) and uses Undead Persistence to stay in combat, and then takes some non-agg damage, it still goes to torpor at the end of combat, correct? It can't retroactively prevent the agg dam and instead take 1 of the points of normal dam, right? -- Justin Fang (jus...@ugcs.caltech.edu) This space intentionally left blank.

First of all, Flesh of Marble: Card Title: Flesh of Marble Blood/Pool: n/a Clan/Discip.: Protean Card Type: Combat Card Text: Only usable before range is chosen. If the vampire takes more than 1 damage in a round, excess damage is prevented, although aggravated damage cannot be prevented. This lasts for the duration of the combat. (S) As above, but aggravated damage can be prevented. Artist: Pete Venters Rarity: Rare Now the RTR: Flesh of Marble - Combat (pt): Reduces all damage *that was not prevented* to one point. [RTR] In a flash of inspiration, they decided to muddle Flesh back to the Jyhad version where it reduced damage. However, I think it's likely best to play that it prevents or it makes no sense. Yep - card text only specifies damage, not any particular type. > For example, suppose you take 2 points of >preventable and 2 points of unpreventable damage. Does FoM ignore the 2 >unpreventable and reduce the 2 preventable to 1, or does it reduce the 2 >preventable to 0? You have taken 4 damage, 4 of which was not prevented (by SoS, Leather Jacket, whatever). Flesh reduces would reduce that 1 - it gets rid of as much as possible. So, it gets rid of the two points of unpreventable first. You still have at least 1 to take (2 aggro left, you see). It gets to these, can do nothing with them and so you still have 2 points of aggro to take. > >Next q: Undead Persistence. Yes. (And if you do stuff like this, it's quite a good way to get round Flesh of Marble - just Ivory Bow them and it can't be prevented because it's one damage has to be left alone). > It can't retroactively prevent the agg dam and >instead take 1 of the points of normal dam, right? No - you quite explicitly took the aggro damage because otherwise you would have been unable to play Undead Persistence - if you didn't take the damage, you weren't going to torpor. If you could have done, rather than playing Undead Persistence at inferior (stay alive) you'd have been better off playing it at superior (prevent damage) or a skin of rock (prevent damage) because then you wouldn't have the problem of you will go to torpor at teh end of the combat. (Of course, you could get round this with Temporis *g*) As always, these are only my opinions and don't forget IANALSJ (kind of like IANAL - I am not a lawyer, but with LSJ instead ;) -- James Coupe (remove .nospam to reply by e-mail) If you find you are falling into madness - dive

So Fom prevents the excess. The excess is three points, one of which is unpreventable, so you prevent two points. This leaves you with two damage to heal. > Next q: Undead Persistence. Yes. Card text on Undead Persistence puts him in torpor - regardless of what happened during combat. > It can't retroactively prevent the agg dam and > instead take 1 of the points of normal dam, right?
