Ive not had any emails from the conclave for about a week - I sent a message to the list and it hasnt apeared on the yahoo group either. So I emailed Oscar at WW and that email has been returned. Is it just me or is it all broken ? Piers

[ quoted text not captured ] No conclave for me either. I don´t get the emails returend from WW but I do not get answers as well, might or might not point to an email problem. -- johannes walch

Ditto here. I haven't heard anything since last week.

[ quoted text not captured ] I don't know anything about the conclave mailing list, but something definitely changed with White Wolf's email server recently. I can no longer email LSJ from my home DSL connection. :_( FArrival-Date: Wed, 23 Nov 2005 18:26:40 +0100 (CET) Final-Recipient: rfc822; vte...@white-wolf.com Action: failed Status: 5.0.0 Diagnostic-Code: X-SMTP-Server; host mail.white-wolf.com[70.158.189.2] said: 550 5.7.0 Your server IP address is in the SORBS DNSBL database, bye (in reply to RCPT TO command) -- Francois Gombault I AM NOT A 32 YEAR OLD WOMAN -- Bart Simpson on chalkboard

I seem toremember SORBS DNSBL being some kind of spam guard - so possibly its blocking all of us... hmm hopefully one of the WW guys will see this thread and check it out.. Piers

That's it... as our mail adresses are spammed they are considered as spam by WW "mail manager"... And I have another problem : I can't update the 30/10/2005 tournament... I believe it is too late but it wasn't possible to do it in time, due to calendar merging problems... :-(( Nicolas, Prince of Oye Plage (France)

I haven't received Conclave mail for a long while now, and Janne Lönnqvist (the NC for Finland) told me yesterday he had the same problem. There's something screwy with WW's mailing software. And the new web pages are a mess, maybe half of the stuff there works and the rest are behind obscure links. Sigh. //Petri (Prince of Helsinki)

I belive the problem is being caused by the rather... errm... over pretective nature of SORBS. I have a Dynamic IP on my local machine & my ISP's SMTP server is not listed on SORBS. So as far as SORBS is concerned i may as well just be a spam-bot. So is it time for the conclave to move of WW servers ? Piers

What is "SORBS"? What problem are you talking about other than Conclave E-mail list being down. The solution to that as far as I know is to restart the Conclave E-mail list and get it working again the way it used to work. Cripes, PLEASE INCLUDE CONTEXT in your posts people!!! Don't just launch into something that can't be understood except by reading exactly the right previous chain of posts. We don't necessarily know what posts went before. Fred

What is "SORBS"? - http://www.nl.sorbs.net/ The problem with SORBS is that if you are sending your emails via 1, a mail server SORBS dosent know about. 2, a mail server that has been reported as a source for spam. 3, a mail server on a dynamic IP address. Then your emails will be bounced by the mail server at WW So if somone else who uses the same ISP's mail server as you has been sending out huge amounts of spam - the whole server and everyone that uses it is effectivly banned. *** I recived a few emails from the conclave today - so some people are getting through.. Although the majority of them are using some kind of webmail service (Yahoo - Gmail) Piers

[ quoted text not captured ] This morning, I found several new Conclave mails in my mailbox - so it seems that at least the mail server is working again. Hardy Range

Seems like a good incentive not to use that ISP. And therefore, if the ISP starts losing good customers for this reason, it would be a good incentive for them to check their new customers thoroughly and set up any practicable blocks possible against spammers using their service to send spam. Which is a good thing, current conditions being what they are. Of course, this is just my survey of arguments for this sort of thing. I realize there may turn out to be reasons why it doesn't work well in practice and the whole thing may be very controversial. (So let's not have that debate here, if you disagree with the above.) Anyway, the real point is, what makes you think SORBS is somehow the cause of current problems? Do you have knowledge that White Wolf just installed it and it seems to be causing the mailing list to not function this past week or so? That's what's confusing me. What makes SORBS suddenly relevant here and now? Fred

It´s totally stupid to reject a mail because the IP of the sending computer is in the SORBS DNSBL database. It can be a hint to SPAM, but if there aren´t a lot more hints the mail should be accepted. White Wolf should rather think about setting their e-mail server right than the customers should change anything with their ISP or mail account. -- johannes walch
