Tom-
Immortal Grapple says only hand strikes may be used by or against the
vampire playing the card. Please clarify:
1) Can either vamp use a Potence card that allows "strike with hand at
+X", such as Undead Strength or Growing Fury?
2) Can the opposing vamp escape with Combat Ends or Dodge (it was argued
to me that these strikes do not do damage and are therefore not "against"
the playing vampire)?
3) Do retainers still do their damage as normal (Wolf companion, etc.)?
4) Is Muddles' 4-damage strike a hand strike?
Thanks,
-Tox

I think you can, but I'll double check.

No.

Of course.

I'll find out.

Speaking of which, are the mages' strikes hand strikes? And Lazarus?
We were playing a game and we got to the choose strike phase (we were
at long range), and I was at a loss momentarily for what to say. I
mean by the rules, it seems to be hand, but, well, it's *magic*, so
what does that count as? :-)

If you are at long range, then you cannot use immortal grapple(only usable at
short range) therefore, it doesn't really matter, but no, 1r is not hand
damage.

I know it's not material to Immortal Grapple, but it's still a valid
question. As a matter of fact, I wasn't even thinking of IG when I
asked the question. It was a question that I was reminded of by the
MVH question, so I asked it.
With Lazarus, we can probably assume the 1R is special and different
from his hand damage (since all vampires have an intrinsic 1 hand
damage).
There's no distinction on the mages as to whether or not it's hand (but
as the MVH question points out, there's no distinction like that on
*any* ally), so the answer to the MVH question will probably be the
same as the answer to the mage question (which means that the Hell
Hound might do hand damage. Er, yeah).
But if the allies do hand damage, this makes the mages and the MVH
much nastier (add a Lucky Blow to their strike iff it's needed --
yuck!). And the mages can do that at range! That's why I asked the
question.
