After some ten years of posting, my friend Ashur have been banned from this newsgroup by it´s creator/administrator. No warning was issued. Any idea who is responsible? Maybe this can be discussed and reversed.

[ quoted text not captured ] I think Ashur has been taking too many Tablets. There's no way to be banned from a newsgroup.

Your news provider - Google, presumably - might have decided to bar you access to their service, but that's entirely different. There is no central authority that can ban you from an unmoderated newsgroup such as rec...jyhad. -- James Coupe PGP Key: 0x5D623D5D YOU ARE IN ERROR. [ quoted text not captured ] This newsgroup is unmoderated (as noted in the FAQ...) There isn't any way to be banned from the newsgroup. It is possible that his ISP doesn't pick it up anymore (although if he is reading it with google.groups, that isn't an issue either). And possible that something is broken somewhere. But he certainly isn't banned. And why is "Ashur's friend" posting as ashur.ashur? Suspicious... -Peter

(Find one of his posts and try to look at his profile.) I've reported him twice now, once for a racist remark and more recently for posting a sales post immediately after he was told not to. Maybe that's got something to do with it, or maybe he's been acting up on other newsgroups as well. John Eno

[ quoted text not captured ] But he's still not banned from this newsgroup. This newsgroup maintains no profiles. It is not possible to be banned from this newsgroup. What he has possibly been is banned from using Google to post to this newsgroup, but that's another thing entirely.

[ quoted text not captured ] Racist remark? That surprises me. What was that all about? Regards Alex

Yeah, I noticed that too and found it weird nobody unleashed at him. Didn't think he'd be reported though. > Maybe that's got something to do with it, or maybe he's been > acting up on other newsgroups as well. > > John Eno I guess two reports are enough for Google, except of course when it involves the spammers that plague our group... Sure, but if he doesn't know of another way to post to the group other than using Google to do so, he might think he's been banned. John Eno

[ quoted text not captured ] Ah, good to hear. I guess Ashur can be a troll from time to time but I would have been very surprised if he did racists remarks. Still find it strange that he would be banned. I can't see why he would be and others wouldn't. It's also a pity since it limits the opportunity to advertise the Stockholm tournaments. Anyhow, doesn't really matter now, I'm sure he can get a new account to keep up the posting. Regards Alex Ek Swedish NC

"You see, doctor, I have this friend.. and he uhm... he wants to know if it's.. you know, if my wiener.. I mean, his wiener, is supposed to, uhm..." :-) We all know it's you, Ashur. Just say so.

[ quoted text not captured ] It is NOT ashr. it is ashur.ashur. Like ashur squared kinda. Double your pleasure!

[ quoted text not captured ] And as LSJ and other have pointed out, he did not get banned from the newsgroup which is unmoderated in that sense. He got banned from Google groups. Anyone can download a "real" newsgroup reader and just continue reading nicely. I guess Google can even provide links to those if you search by them. Excellent tools too. Archie (who also is lazy and uses google groups)
