Just to slightly introduce myself I am a Ohio State Student and have just
been introduced to Jyhad, right now me and my brother play along with one
other friend. I have only played about 5 games so I consider myself a
beginner. I have 1 starter set and about 15 boosters. I am reading
everything I can on Jyhad to catch up but I know it takes time. I do have
copies of the Rules 1.4, Rules for Specific Cards, House Rules, and even
some of the questions other people have asked. I apologize if these
questions seem too obvious but I am trying hard to learn.
When you reply I would appreciate it if you did so in semi-beginner
terminology (I'm just learning the lingo).
AND if something is in one of the manuals I have it's o.k. with me if you
just tell me where to look (section, paragraph, etc.).
THANK YOU VERY MUCH IN ADVANCE!!!!!!

I am looking for the complete list but I saw a few in magazines and a few

to make sure we aren't all missing something simple.

Welcome to the game! We're having a bit of a worry as to what
the future holds, but the game will be around for a while, and I hope
you'll enjoy it as much as we around here do!
>1. How many total cards are there? Is it 438 (just the number please)?
> Can someone email me a list of all of the error cards or misprints?
>At least how many are there?
Yes, the current number is 438. I don't have a list of all of
the misprints, sorry.
>2. When using a disguised/concealed weapon can placing it on your vamp be
>blocked or is it automatic? Who can block it? I think it is during the
>combat right?
Both of those cards are indeed combat cards, and the weapons
revealed (played) by those cards can't be blocked, since there's not an
action associated with it.
>3. When do you play Amaranth - with other strike cards or only by itself?
Amaranth isn't a strike. You play it after strikes have
resolved and it has been determined that your opponent is going to
torpor (and you are not).
>4. If you can strike at range and your opponent can't - (with a maneuver or
>whatever) does this mean that you are hitting and they aren't?
Yes, it does. You must always choose a strike, even at long
range, but if you do not have a long range strike, you cannot deal any
damage at long range.
>5. Does the writing on the Night Moves card basically say that you can only
>bleed 1 pool with this card (regardless of modifiers)?
Yep. Modifiers are ignored, and only 1 blood is lost.
>6. When I see a card that says (like Bloodhunt):+1 stealth. Prince or Justicar
> Does that mean that only a ready Prince or Justicar can play it?
Yes. There are two types of things that appear in boldface at
the top of cards. One type is a modifier (such as +1 Stealth), and the
other limits who can use the card. Prince or Justicar means that only
someone who holds that title can use that card. Another frequent
example is "All Kindred" which means that only vampires can take that
action ("All Kindred" appears on all political action cards).
>7. On Cloak the Gathering let's say I control Vamps A and B. Do I play it
>to help A when vamp B is performing an action?
Vampire A plays it to help minion B's action while B is
performing the action. Basically vampire A can lend stealth to B's
action.
>8. For Fast Reaction can I use it at the end of a combat round or at the
>end of combat?
It happens at the end of combat, not the end of a round.
> Does this mean A and B are fighting (I control A)- I use FR with a

Vampire A is out of the fight once you play FR. FR is played
once the original fight has finished, and starts an entirely new combat
from scratch. So C is fighting B and B doesn't get to strike on the
first round of this new combat. A is off somewhere else.
>9. Is Misdirection used only once or is it kept around like a unique location?
> If so, do you pay x once and you can always tap x vamps each turn
>(Probably not but it's worth asking)?
No no, it's not *that* powerful. You only use it once and then
it goes to the Ash Heap. Sorry.
>10. If Blood Doll is on a vamp and someone steals or takes over control of
>the vamp, does the BD card stay with the vamp and give the same right to the

I believe that the ruling is that the new controller gets to
drain the Doll as if she had played the card.
>11. It says that Haven Uncovered can be burnt by Vamp as an action, can
>attempting to burn the card be blocked or attempted to block? By anyone?
The action is a normal, undirected action, and can be blocked by
the predator or prey of that Methuselah.
>12. Can the Elder Library card be burnt (arson etc.)? If so, when they try
>I can try to block right?
Yes and yes.
>13. Am I reading the Drawing Out The Beast card right - does the vamp you're
>attacking get the +1 hand damage? Why would this be a good card?
Because it prevents them from using strike cards. If you are
facing someone who can do 3 or more damage to you, or who can do
aggravated damage, you may want to stop them from doing that.
>14. The Millicent Smith - Puritan Vampire Hunter card,

Correct. On the turn you play her, you are affected by her.
> b. If after passed my pred. does not have an action blocked, does
>she stay with him or do they pass her right again? (If so, does this keep
>going until she is used - OUCH!)
She keeps moving until she's burned or the game is over. She's
pretty nasty. Add a Reversal of Fortunes, and you're going to hose
someone very quickly (unless they have a Caitiff to throw away... :-)).
>15. If Navar can't block an older vamp then by giving him skills you are

Correct.

I'm sure you'll get lots of advice, as they're a fun clan to
play, and there are a few different ways to play them. Personally, I
use them in my "Bruise or Bleed" deck, where I either beat you up with
Thaumaturgy or bleed you for lots with Dominate.

i appreciate the sentiment, but as a point of etiquette, most people
find that EXCESSIVE CAPITALIZATION AND PUNCTUATION!!!!! is distracting,
or even mildly annoying.
>2. When using a disguised/concealed weapon can placing it on your vamp be
>blocked or is it automatic? Who can block it? I think it is during the
>combat right?
it's a combat card, and so can't be blocked. a common house rule is
that concealed weapon does not require Obfuscate; there are several good
reasons behind this.
>3. When do you play Amaranth - with other strike cards or only by itself?
Amaranth isn't a strike; it is an alternative way of dealing with a
strike's consequences (i.e., diablerie vis-a-vis torpor). play it when
the vampire should go to torpor (typically during strike resolution).
>4. If you can strike at range and your opponent can't - (with a maneuver or
>whatever) does this mean that you are hitting and they aren't?
why, yes. that seems fairly intuitive.
>5. Does the writing on the Night Moves card basically say that you can only
>bleed 1 pool with this card (regardless of modifiers)?
why, yes. and this, too, seems fairly intuitive.
>6. When I see a card that says (like Bloodhunt): +1 stealth. Prince or Justicar
> Does that mean that only a ready Prince or Justicar can play it?
correct.
>7. On Cloak the Gathering let's say I control Vamps A and B. Do I play it
>to help A when vamp B is performing an action?
why would you want to do that? a isn't doing anything. b (acting minion)
is taking an action, and superior obfuscate a (who, by the latest
design team ruling [sigh] doesn't even need to be untapped) cloaks b's
gathering, granting b stealth.
>8. For Fast Reaction can I use it at the end of a combat round or at the

at end of combat.
> Does this mean A and B are fighting (I control A)- I use FR with a

no, no. you only play combat cards (the ones with the twisty arrows pointing
at each other) in combat. you play reactions cards (the ones with the
single curved arrow) outside of combat. Fast Reaction initiates a whole new
combat, with acting minion b entering combat (and unable to strike the first
round) with fast reactioned vampire c (who would not count as a blocking
minion for whatever obscure conditions that might be important for).
>9. Is Misdirection used only once or is it kept around like a unique location?
> If so, do you pay x once and you can always tap x vamps each turn
>(Probably not but it's worth asking)?
oh, goddess, no. it's ugly enough as it is (though not all that
cost-effective). one use only.
>10. If Blood Doll is on a vamp and someone steals or takes over control of

i'm fuzzy on this; anyone else know?
>11. It says that Haven Uncovered can be burnt by Vamp as an action, can
>attempting to burn the card be blocked or attempted to block? By anyone?
why, yes. it's an action at +1 stealth. it can be blocked just like
any other nondirected action at +1 stealth, i.e. by any minion of your
prey or predator with +1 intercept, or anyone on the table with eagle's
sight and +1 intercept, or anneke with +1 intercept.
>12. Can the Elder Library card be burnt (arson etc.)? If so, when they try
>I can try to block right?
it's a location; sure it can be burnt. actions taken to burn it can be
blocked as usual.
>13. Am I reading the Drawing Out The Beast card right - does the vamp you're
>attacking get the +1 hand damage? Why would this be a good card?
+1 hand damage beats the hell out a flame thrower or a rocket launcher
or any of the many nasty weapons out there. it's a good card against
annoying equipment decks.

yup. make sure you're in a good defensive position when you try to pull
this off.
> b. If after passed my pred. does not have an action blocked, does

nope, she passes to the right. very nasty, and quite effective in a deck
made to take advantage of it (madness network comes to mind immediately).
>15. If Navar can't block an older vamp then by giving him skills you are

sure thing. people love layering them skill cards on navar. sure it's
slow and inefficient, but the giggle factor alone more than makes up for it.

oooh. tremere. well, you have lots of options (well, any clan gives
you lots of options). let's explore:
there's tremere first-round combat, basically maneuvers (you'll have to
use fake outs and IR goggles, since their disciplines are notoriously
maneuver-short -- you can occasionally get away with sup. Movement of
the Mind) and Theft of Vitae. Tremere minor in celerity -- some additional
skill cards and Celerity skills might be a good angle to explore. chuck
in loads of intercept and fast reactions and you can keep a lot of
vampires hunting. intercept the hunts and send them to happy torpor ville.
there's the dreaded second-round tremere combat, with the nasty cards --
drain essence, walk of flame, cauldron of blood. again, tremere are
press-weak (well, they have presses to end with movement of the mind, but
that's not what we want here) -- you'll have to remedy this with
Mob Connections, Boxed in, and (my personal approach) Trap. the
script is simple: block->trap->theft->drain->walk. season with
weather controls.
in both of the above, don't forget to add significant quantities
of dominate bleed boosters for two uses: bleed the hell out of your prey
when all their vampires are tapped, in torpor, or scared, and to make
your prey either have to block or eat severe bleed. people with auspex
and/or dominate can be annoyingly effective at ignoring this strategy, what
with telepathic counter, telepathic misdirection, and deflection.
a pulse of the canaille or six never hurt anybody. in general, get into
combat rather than avoiding it; leave obedience to the ventrue.
or, if you're feeling munchkinish, chantry/fame/talbot's chainsaw can work
wonders at getting large quantities of people pissed at you.
have fun,
heckler

Correct. I'm pretty sure that has to be considered errata to the card.

I figured I'd just answer this one question, since everybody
probably answered all the other ones. I don't know how much this will help
you, since you don't have that much of a card-base to go on.. but here goes.
The Tremere possess the three basic powers; Thamaturgy, Dominate,
and Auspex. This gives you a selection of three basic deck types..
Combat-oriented (for Thamaturgy), Bleed oriented (with Dominate) and
intercept-defense oriented (with Auspex).
First off, a deck who's sole purpose is to fend off your predator is
not a good deck... and whereas a Bleed deck might be fun, it doesn't usually
work with this clan because there are few ways to add stealth to your bleed
attempts.
That leaves us with a combat oriented deck. Take a moment to look
at the disciplines your minions have; especially the higher ones. You'll
notice that most of your minions that are generation 6 or higher each have
Auspex, Dominate, Thamaturgy, AND CELERITY. Celerity gives the vampire
extra strikes, dodges with additional strikes, and so on. My current deck
uses celerity extensively.. and here's how it works.
My crypt is built so any Tremere that is over level 6 has Celerity
already printed on the card. I have two of each minion below 4, to keep the
crypt balanced.
My library is built as follows: (usually play with 100 cards)
5-10 Celerity skill cards. These invariably go on the lower vamps.
Hunting ground.
Arcane Library, which lets you add free blood to your uncontrolled
vamps during your influence.
5 Govern the Unaligned.. which I usually use to put blood on ucvs
5-10 blurs. These provide additional strikes.
5 hawgs for presses.
10 boxed-ins. for presses.
5-10 Theft of Vitae.. a ranged attack.
5 deer rifles.. for manuvering to long range.
5 zip guns for manuver to long range
2 dragon breath rounds.. for a nasty surprise.
5 Bum Rushes
and the rest of the library consists of Walk of Flame, Cauldron of
Blood, and Drain Essence.
A good round of combat will go as follows:
I bum rush a particular vampire.
I manuver to long range using the bum-rush, deer rifle, or zip gun.
Shoot for one damage.
Press (using whatever means)
Blur (for 2-3 strikes.)
Cauldron of Blood, Drain Essence, and Walk of Flame.
On a best case senario, this will BURN a 10 level vampire. 1+5+4+2ag
Just make sure that you play WoFlame LAST, as this will put your opponent
into torpor.. or burn it if there's no blood left on the vampire. This will
also save any blood loss if the particular vampire has the "Fame" card
played on it. The Drain Essense will also replenish any blood lost due to
other actions (like blur, opponent shooting back.. etc).
Of course, you probably don't have enough cards to do this.. but
it's something to think about. Always remember, when building a deck that
is specific for one or two clans.. make sure to look for commonalities in
their disciplines.. Several Malkavians have Thamaturgy.. A couple of
Toreador have Protean... you get the idea. This makes combining certian
clans together easier than you might suspect.
Good luck!

[Tremere combat deck description deleted]
What I've been having a lot of fun with lately is a Tremere
bleed-bounce deck that does not use any of the "second round
(or later) only" combat cards.
Both Auspex and Dominate have cards to send a bleed against you
on to someone else - very handy, as you can have your predator
do most of your dirty work for you.
I put enough intercept in to deal with non-bleed actions, and
for combat, focus on maneuvers, guns, and theft of vitae.
Movement of the Mind, IR goggles, .44 magnums, Deer Rifle.
Maneuver to long range, shoot or steal blood, then press
to end (if necessary). I use this instead of the heavy combat
approach because it requires fewer cards (allowing me to put
more other stuff in my deck, like votes, mages, and *lots*
of bleed bouncers), and is less reliant on getting just the
right combinations.
I've been attempting to mix in enough Ventrue to do well with
political actions, but haven't quite got the deck working right
yet. I do kind of like having Jazz Wentworth in there - if you're
counting on using bleed bounces to get your predator to kill
your prey for you, you won't get the Edge very often.
Tend to run into trouble in the end-game, however - what
good are those bleed bouncers when you're one of the last
two players left?
