If Lorrie Dunsirn takes a carded action with no intrinsic pool cost, can I tap Powerbase: Tshwane to cancel Lorrie's added pool cost? Similarly, can I tap Powerbase: Tshwane to cancel the pool cost for playing a free master on a vampire with a Secure Haven? Marc G.

Lorrie's added pool cost is part of the cost of the action. > Similarly, can I tap Powerbase: Tshwane to cancel the pool cost for > playing a free master on a vampire with a Secure Haven? No. That is not cost.

it's almost the same question, but... who knows? (you, i suppose) i don't remember the name, but there is in play the gehenna event that increases by 1 the blood cost of any discipline card. i'm playing lasombra and there is in play the path of night. i suppose obtenebration cards still cost as noted on the cards. am i right?

Increasing the cost by one and then paying one less has a net effect of zero, yes. -- That is my story, be it bitter or be it sweet. Keep a little and let a little come back to me. [ quoted text not captured ] Black Cat's SMG would cost 3 pool, so still out of Concealing range. PB: Tshwane can't be brought in, since the concealed card is not being played "as normal" -- that is, for the same reason the Concealed weapon cannot be DI'ed. You could DI the CW card itself (or tap Tshwane to reduce the cost of CW). [ quoted text not captured ]

Lorrie's added pool cost is part of the cost of the action. To follow up, must I tap the powerbase when the action is declared, or can I wait until just before the cost for the action is to be paid? Same with burning Soul of the Earth? so it could be 'wasted' if the recruit ally or employ retainer action is blocked? salem http://www.users.tpg.com.au/adsltqna/VtES/index.htm (replace "hotmail" with "yahoo" to email)

No. SotE doesn't use the same "play" template that is used no PB:T

LSJ

[ quoted text not captured ] Card text indicates it doesn't matter, but before is correct.

[ quoted text not captured ] Oops. :) Sorry! Then again, know the right way is still helpful, since it might affect whether or not I want to DI. Thanks for the help, as always! Ira

[ quoted text not captured ] The timing does matter, just not for the original card - but if you have to tap it before DI is played, it's not available to use on a second pool-costing card later because DI won't untap the Powerbase as part of cancelling the action. (This by extention also matters to Gualtiero Ghilberti; since you can apparently still DI a necromancy action after he declares his special, the GG player can't wait to see if you DI it before using his 'once per turn' ability up.) Thanks for the clarification. -John Flournoy

Yes it will, by card text on PB:T. That's what I meant by "card text indicates it doesn't matter". [ quoted text not captured ]

Huh. It's almost like this issue was considered in advance! :P (For whatever dumb reason, I was thinking 'card text indicates' was referring to the DI card text; it didn't even cross my mind that PB:T covered it explicitly. Ooops.) > LSJ (vtesr...@TRAPwhite-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep (remove spam trap to reply) -John Flournoy
