Question: A rush action made unblockable by Day Operation. Can the target vampire use Obedience? I'd say no, as Day Operation says "This action cannot be blocked." (with no restriction to "by vampires") and Obedience says "The acting vampire is blocked". Thoughts: Yes, it's ye olde Meddling of Semsith again! * Promo-only cards DO NOT draw new players. However, they do encourage the fraction of VTES players who'd fit better with the Magic crowd to trade them off newer players (who don't know what promo-onlys are worth) for a fairly to very small fraction of their worth. [If even one of these newer players ever starts playing the game more seriously, figures out the truth of what promo-only cards are worth, and finds it completely and utterly impossible to ever get a copy back at a reasonable cost, I'll be the first to encourage them to switch to Magic, where at least, nobody lies about facts such as these anymore.] * Promo-only cards DO encourage those who can afford it to travel. Basically, there's nothing wrong with that, travelling to another Storyline event probably costs more than the 50$ or whatever MoS will fetch on e-bay. However, if the card is actually any good, there's this money game aspect again, you know, the bit that official reps will vigorously deny even at the expense of their credibility. * Meddling of Semsith IS a good promo-only card. I played one myself in the storyline event... at a time when due to a bad library draw, I couldn't have cared less about reducing my hand size. And when drawing started swinging my way , the reduced hand size didn't matter, either. As for the effect, I can safely say that both Brujah decks in the final went through a lot more than 7 cards during some of their turns, at least. Furthermore, I can safely say that I would have felt MoS being played on me a lot more than playing it myself in a (probably too-I should have either focused more on combat or more on votes) toolboxy titled Nosferatu with fortitude deck, and thus dispute the claim that toolboxy decks won't be affected by MoS. * I've got my ONE Meddling. So what do I care? *shrug* Oh well, if anyone out there (and don't tell me there isn't) who traded a MoS from a newbie for something like two Pulled Fangs (Jyhad version) is going to trade it to me for the same price (instead of a (Dis-)arm and a leg), I don't. Otherwise, *shrug* again. But if the newbies figure out what happened, I'll supply the tar, feathers and cement boots, because I know I'd feel like it in their place. Well, we'll see if MoS indeed remains a storyline-only promo-only (very bad idea), if WW will bother to instruct tournament organizers to specifically inform (newer) players of the value of promo-only cards (which I'd really like to see), and if some people on this NG will be able to provide a more intelligent response than (what I consider) whining about all the (what they consider) whining. If you are referring to points I raised, you have mistated them. MoS, assuming it passes, always has an effect, on both the one who plays it and its victem. It is likely to have less of an effect on victems who play a more balanced mix of all phases of the game (master, minion, reaction) and/or card management aids like extra discards, then on all-reactive decks or all pro-active non-vote decks. This and other factors may, depending on circumstances, make Semsith a less desirable card than many others you could have held in your hand and forced through, like KRC for example, which, likewise, always has an effect on your victem (including a direct oust, which Semsith cannot do). >* I've got my ONE Meddling. >So what do I care? *shrug* Oh well, if anyone out there (and don't tell >me there isn't) who traded a MoS from a newbie for something like two >Pulled Fangs (Jyhad version) is going to trade it to me for the same >price (instead of a (Dis-)arm and a leg), I don't. >Otherwise, *shrug* again. But if the newbies figure out what happened, It remains to be seen how badly ripped these newbies truly were. It is not necessarily the case that this card will forever continue to go for $50.00 on Ebay. Personally, I'd rather have the 2 Pulled Fangs, if I had none. I expect that, in the long run, demand for Semsith will decrease and supply to increase. If the card is truly "broken", as some claim, it is likely to be fixed, as Pulled Fangs was. I dislike the type of player who tried to take advantage of newbies, but neither do I think that tournament organizers should try to tell players what cards should be worth or what a fair trade consists of.
