The "must" hunt bit only applies to vampires that have no blood and are "ready" at the beginning of the minion phase (p 23, Starter rulebook). -- Michael Wang mmwang@mv.us.adobe.com

Interesting though -- if you read it, it doesn't say the vampyre has to be READY at the beginning of the phase... Only that it has to have had 0 blood on it at the beginning of the phase. In which case a vampyre just rescued would apply. Ahah! Brilliance descends! The way I've just read it (when the light bulb over my head went on), the text says this: A ready vampyre that begins the minion phase with no blood MUST [italics] hunt as its action, and this action must be taken before any other minion actions are taken. Points to note about this quote: 1. It does NOT say that the vampyre must be ready at the beginning of the phase. It says it must have <no blood> at the beginning of the phase. 2. It does NOT say that the hunt action must be taken before ALL OTHER actions. It says this action must be taken before ANY OTHER actions. Thus: A vampyre in torpor has 0 blood. A pal walks in and rescues him. The 0-blood vampyre comes out. Now he's ready, and he had zero blood on him at the beginning of the phase, so by the rules, he must hunt for his action. He must hunt before any other minion actions are taken. So, according to this interpretation, the following scenario is correct to the rules: [Setup: Three ready vampyres, one with no blood, the other two with an unimportant amount of blood, though one has at least two blood. One vampyre in torpor, with no blood.] The ready vampyre with no blood must hunt first. This is because of Point 2 from above. Now there are two ready vampyres left. The player wants to rescue the vamp in torpor, but also wants to bleed their opponent. There are two ways this could happen: 1. The player rescues the vampyre from torpor, the newly released vampyre must then hunt before anything else, and then the last ready vampyre tries to bleed. 2. The vampyre tries the bleed, then the rescue is made, and then the hunt is resolved. I think this interpretation answers quite a few things about the situation. Given the text on p23, this is exactly how I would interpret it, according to how it's written. Of course, if it's written incorrectly, I could be wrong... :) ...Paul -- + + + + + + + + + + + Paul, cleggp@aol.com. yIlImQo'qu' Don't Panic! alt.galactic-guide yIlaD "When doth life leave the weary? Section 13.2.1: *HUNT* A ready vampire that begins the minion phase with no blood MUST hunt as its action, and this action must be taken before any other minion actions are taken. Also, in the FAQ it says that a untapped vampire coming out of torpor must hunt on the FOLLOWING turn. This seems to imply that it cannot hunt on THAT turn. -- | kreme@netcom.com \ 1015 South Gaylord, Denver, CO 80209 #100 | | PGP Fingerprint \ 1D 5E F7 C8 7E C2 F9 87 0F 86 C9 B0 D2 63 9C B2 | | [303/722-2009] Vox \ Maximum Aisle: "State of the art in long-term | | [303/777-2911] Data \ incarceration." The hunting ground provides free blood every turn, meaning you can restock your vampires' supply without having to waste actions hunting. They have nothing to do with the actual "hunt" action.
