While I was in the glass store buying red "globs" (blood counters at a much better price), I picked up a few larger ones, including one large faceted red teardrop. At Origins they were using little ankhs (presumably Vampire: The Masquerade paraphenalia). In our first game, we used a handy D20, since no one had brought anything else. Another item I have handy is a small disposable razor blade in a red plastic holder (an Olfa Touch-Knife, for those who hit the art stores), with a very nice "edge". It would probably not be a good idea to use an ornate fantasy dagger or unloaded handgun, though, just in case a rules discussion got out of hand... So how about alternate suggestions for blood counters, too? We shouldn't *all* play with boring red globs. I suggest dropping by your local gun shop and picking up some clean, unprimed brass in your favorite caliber, giving it a thin gloss lacquer coat to keep it from tarnishing, and using a dummy round in a rifle caliber for the Edge. No live ammo, please. Those who don't want to spend money on glass counters can easily acquire flat plastic counters in any number of colors, or go with poker chips (too big, imho). Computer nerds may opt for thin-net terminators. When in doubt, there's always pennies; they have the virtue of being both cheap and available in unlimited quantities. If you insist your counters must be red, buy a small can of spray-paint, and make those pennies bleed. The obvious choice for the Edge is a quarter. -- J Greely (jgreely@synopsys.com)

So, just to be the first to start polling, what do YOU use for your EDGE counter in Jyhad? We use a Koosh Ball. Has anyone gotten any response from questions@wizards.com or custserv@wizards.com recently? Just wondering since my email bounced from questions and custserv offered no reply. Did EVERYONE at the company go to GenCon or something? Sheesh! Hmm... time to use the hotline, I guess. Funny thing was that when I tried to finger the accounts it said questions hadn't logged on since June 10(this can't be right, can it?) and custserv had never logged on. Whatever.

My personal favorite to date was to use the television remote control as the edge. Some friends of mine in the SFX biz are trying to get a cast of Tom Cruise's hand from the movie Interview With The Vampire to use as the Edge.

We use this large plastic bat I have lying around. When it's not the edge, it's a minature in an RPG where one of the characters has a giant bat as a pet (which is why it was on the gaming table when we started Jyhad). The first time we played we used beans as blood counters. One guy was eating them whenever he lost points. He got really sick. : Bryan -- Nez@thepoint.com First master of the backwards philosophy.
