The Duelist wants House Rules for Magic!
To Magic: The Gathering players across the Internet: The
Duelist, the official Deckmaster magazine from Wizards of the Coast,
wants you to contribute to the magazine's regular "House Rules"
column of Magic variants, optional rules, and tournament formats.
The Duelist (as well as The Duelist Companion, the
monthly newsletter of the Duelists' Convocation tournament
organization) is looking for brief, clear, specific descriptions of your
favorite new ways to change Magic. Large multi-player scenarios,
tiny wrinkles on a single rule -- if you enjoy it, we want to see it!
Write for a novice player who understands the regular Magic rules
but knows nothing beyond that. Please explain specifically how to set
up your variant, how it changes the rules, victory conditions (if
appropriate), and so on. If you just want to drop a casual note, that's
all right, but we'd prefer a thorough, well-presented variant,
between 200 and 1,000 words long.
Send your Magic house rules, along with your name, address,
and daytime phone number, to a.va...@genie.geis.com. If we use
your variant in The Duelist or Duelist Companion, we'll send you
a free copy of the issue your contribution appears in. You retain all
rights to your submission.
The Duelist won this year's Origins Award for Best Magazine
(sharing it with Dragon). The magazine achieved this by listening to
its readers, the most experienced and devoted players of Magic. If
you are one of these, The Duelist is listening to you now. Speak out,
and thanks!

for The Duelist
And, of course, we are looking for house rules pertaining to
Jyhad/Vampire: the Eternal Struggle. These should also be sent to Allen.
In addition to house rules, we are also looking for WotC picks,
cards that work particularly well in combination with one another. Refer
to the WotC Picks articles in previous issues of the Duelist for the sort of
thing we're looking for. Again, both Magic and Jyhad/V:TES picks are
acceptable.
Submissions for house rules should be sent to me at aa...@wizards.com.
As with the house rules, they should include your name, address, and daytime
phone number, you'll retain all rights for your submission, and if your
contribution is included in an issue of the Duelist or Duelist Companion,
you will receive a free copy of that issue. And please, send only the
combinations you think are *really* interesting, not pages and pages of
combinations you happen to think are cool.
