Q. to WotC and Jyhad knowledgeables in general:
The Game of Malkav says that "All Methuselahs hold out their
hands containing from 1 to 5 blood pool (except acting Methuselah, who
can hold out 1 to 6)." Does that blood come from the blood bank or their
own blood pool? I played a game the other day (down to 3 from 10
players) and used the card, everyone reached for the blood bank, and so I
shrugged and counted it as a loss, since I had bled them to the point
where, if they had to hold out blood from their blood pools, they
wouldn't be able to stop me from gaining 6 blood.

This is the way I've always played that card:
This blood comes from the blood bank. If they win the game, they add that
blood to their pool. If they lose, they put that blood back, and then take
that much blood from their pool, and put it in the bank. It is permissible,
however, to bid more blood than you have left in your pool.

Bah! There's no point if you take it from the blood bank. The whole
point is that it's a wild gamble with each Methuselah's life. If the
methuselahs play it safe, and only hold out a little blood, the caller can
reap great rewards. But if they hold out a lot, they stand to lose a
lot. There's no solution to the game. It's crazy. It's Malkavian. :)

It would come from the bank.

Well, if it says "Blood Pool" it should be THEIR blood.

Umm... it doesn't really matter, does it? We normally put our
bet, from our pools, in one hand, and the rest of our pool in
the other. That way the losers just dump their blood into the
bank. Is there some reason that you say it comes from the bank,
Tom?

If you only have one blood left in your pool, you bet there is a diff!
The size of your blood pool does not restrict the size of the "bet".
(yeah, we usually use our pool as well)

You still lose X blood from your own pool if you lose the game. The effect of
getting the blood in your hand from the big pool is simply to allow someone who
has only 3 pool left to still bet 5 if he wants. If he was restricted to using
only those 3, then it would be an easy win for the other players, which
wouldn't be properly Malkavian :)

Um, yeah, but I would assume that you don't "die" until the bet is
resolved. And there is always the chance that you'll win blood. I still
think the card
would be better interpreted as coming from the blood pools instead of the
blood bank. It's just more... vicious (and crazy) that way.

The problem isn't Final Death (remember...we are already dead!), it's
number of tokens. I need 5 tokens to bet 5 blood. If I only have
one drop of blood left in my pool, it's going to take some fairly
large and expensive milling equipment to turn it into 5 tokens.
Understand?
And the game is more crazy if you can bet more than you have.
And that is the way the game is played!

It doesn't *really* matter where people grab the blood tokens from for the
Game of Malkav, but since you aren't limited to the blood in your pool
(you could choose 5 while at 2 pool, for example), it seems to me it
would be simpler to just grab it from the bank all the time, which (at least
in my experience) always has more than enough counters in it.

Twice I have had prey eliminated by that card. Both
times it was my guess that killed them. Last night he went
4 and I went three. He lost his three remaining pool (He only
had three) and I got 6 + 4 blood. What a sweet card. By the
way, on both occasions is they who originally played the card.
