[Help] What has happened to Google Groups?

original thread on Google Groups

as...@hotmail.com

After many attempts Google has finally made it: I can´t view threads in Google groups any more. What is wrong? I click a topic and a new window open, where no thread is seen, just the first 10 messages. No link to take me to see the rest. Can someone help me, or point me to some other way to view the newsgroup? ('Cept having it mailed too me off course)

Find one that works for your computer and operating system, and has a user interface you like. You may have to read the documentation or FAQ of your internet service provider, to find out the address of their news server. There are free news servers out there, but at least in my country the private news servers of the local ISPs work better. Once you have used a *proper* newsreader, you'll never go back to Google Groups - except for searching, of course. (Google Groups exels in searching, but sucks for reading news.) -- hg@ "If you can't offend part of your audience, iki.fi there is no point in being an artist at all." -Hakim Bey

But I want to check newsgroups at work, and here I cannot install programs.

The "beta" interface has mostly removed the "threads" option (you can click on the title of the thread, and you can read the messages in chronological order), but if you can find the older, non beta interface (my work windows computer will only use the beta interface; my home Mac will still use the non beta interface), you can still get threaded messages. > I click a topic and a new > window open, where no thread is seen, just the first 10 messages. Yeah, that is the beta interface. You might be able to get to the older interface by clicking around some. I don't know why my home Mac still goes to the older interface and my work Windows computer automatically switched to the newer interface, and doesn't want to go to the older interface page at all. It is a mystery. > No > link to take me to see the rest. Can someone help me, or point me to > some other way to view the newsgroup? ('Cept having it mailed too me > off course) If you can't download a newsreader at work, you can configure your Outlook if you have that to read usenet. You just need to find out what your news-server is to configure it correctly. Maybe talk to your tech guy who might be able to tell you. Pretend it is for some sort of legitimate work related newsgroup use... -Peter

Click on "more options" at the top (in the gray bar), then click on "show message list" to bring up the threaded list.

[ quoted text not captured ] Google stats are improved as well. http://groups.google.com/group/rec.games.trading-cards.jyhad/about Check the bottom -- Three of the top 10 posters of all time are me. Yay me. (Of course, replying to my own posts is only one of the strategies I use. :-).

Also, you should note that those statistics are attached to emails and not identities. So when you change email accounts for your identity, then you are reset to zero. It happened to me..... [ quoted text not captured ] Oh, yes. It happened to me, as well. Only one of my four civilian accounts that I've posted from has made the cut. And only one of the two email addresses at WotC made it. Occasionally, I've posted from this email without the "LSJ" moniker, as well, and I'm guess that doesn't contribute the the "LSJ" tally, either. But who's counting?
