Hi Scott, It looks like the current vtescsv.zip file at http://download.white-wolf.com/download/download.php?file_id=131 has some truncated card texts in the vteslib.csv file. For example, Anima Gathering is cut off at the "[AU" in its superior line, and Aranthebes the Immortal is cut off at the "A" in his final sentence. There may be other examples too, I'm not sure. It doesn't seem to have happened to any of the vampires in the vtescrypt.csv file, though. At least, Sonja Blue seems to have the longest rules text of any current vampire, and she has all of her text. There don't seem to be any problems with the Cardlist.txt plain-text listing, either. Josh hadn't noticed till norm pointed it out

There may be other examples too, > I'm not sure. ? I just downloaded the file via that link and opened it in a text editor. The Anima Gathering line reads complete: "Anima Gathering","Action","","Auspex","","","","","+1 stealth action. [aus] Put this card on this acting vampire and choose another minion you control. Burn this card if this minion untaps. During your untap phase, you may choose not to untap this minion as normal. The chosen minion gets +2 intercept. [AUS] As above, and the chosen minion also gets +1 bleed.","","KMW:C","","Jeff Holt" Aranthebes similarly: "Aranthebes, The Immortal","Action","","","1","","","","+1 stealth action. Unique. Put this card into play. You may tap Aranthebes to give a minion controlled by your predator -1 stealth for the current action. While Aranthebes is untapped, vampires with a capacity less than 5 get -1 bleed when bleeding you. Any vampire with a capacity above 4 can move Aranthebes to your library as a (D) action. Shuffle afterward.","","Anarchs:R","","Andrew Trabbold" Perhaps its a problem with the app you're using to open the file. Check yours with a text editor to verify.

Certainly not the first time Excel and CSV files have caused problems... Simon has done way too many data cleans

I even downloaded a fresh copy of the CSV to "make sure" it wasn't something I did, but it didn't occur to me that Excel (2002 SP3, here at work) was messing up the (perfectly fine in text) file when I opened it. That's so budget. I guess I'll try using OpenOffice sometime when I'm at home and see if that works better... ah well. Thanks to you and Shade for help determining the source of the problem... Josh thwarted by microsoft... again!

That seems to be where it's truncating long card-text fields, yeah. Excel (at least, the 2002 version) seems to be OK with lines that are longer than 255 characters, but doesn't seem to be able to handle individual fields longer than 255 characters in a .CSV file. Do you have a clever fix suggestion? I haven't managed to try OpenOffice yet, maybe that'll be able to do it. I thought about trying to use a text editor to cut out the imbued-attribute fields, but despaired of figuring out how to delete an entire field in an editor that doesn't look at the .CSV as having separate fields... Josh not so excellent

[ quoted text not captured ] read it into Access and export as .xls? I don't know if the first part will work without having the same prob as Excel, and I am not sure the second part is possible, but it should be. So if you have excel, you probably have access, so it's not anything extra to install...might be worth a few minutes to try. -- salem http://users.tpg.com.au/adsltqna/vtes/ (replace 'hotmail' with 'yahoo' to email)

It took a little jiggling, but it worked! Now I can read the entire text of Anima Gathering in ARDB. How exciting. :-) Josh full of commas and quote marks

Although I would have read it into a Teradata database instead, 'cause I hate Access. But I suspect they might not like me using their multi-million dollar machine for VtES stuff.
