So I've been wanting to make this Lasombra deck for a while now, and I
finally came to the conclusion that trying to make it a combat deck just
wasn't going to work. Obt and Dom just don't help Potence out at all

"fight back" combat defense.

I agree. I haven't made my Lasombra deck yet, but I figured that I would make
Potence a minor discipline and concentrate on Obtenabration for stealth and
Dominate for bleed and use some voting. Now, if you could get enough
Entombments you would not need Potence.
The same thing happens with the Giovanni. When I get to making them, the
Potence will get left out and I will try to make it a Tap and Bleed deck,
using the Jar the Soul card and for combat defense use the one that has Dodge
or Combat Ends at superior (Spiritual Intervention).

Looks good. I guess get Entobments if you can, they are rare. I don't have
much suggestion for the crypt. Some of the Antitribu clans got good mid-range
vampires and others only had ones in the 9-10 range like the Lasombra.
Love the name. Maybe you could rewrite the song...

To some extent I feel obligated to use the Potence. If I didn't, I
might as well play the Malkavians. Entombment is just too expensive
(and too rare) for something which can be easily dodged or S:CEd.

This was a point that I meant to make. Having the close range, Immortal
Grapple punch you for seven deal takes up _way_ too many cards for your
deck to be reasonably effective at anything else. This way, I have
around 25 combat cards. I won't kill anyone, but hopefully I will not
get killed, either.
> out and I will try to make it a Tap and Bleed deck,
> using the Jar the Soul card
Mind Numb is so much more effective than Jar the Soul, since MN is not a
1:1 effect. JtS taps them, but then they untap next turn. With MN you
tap them and they stay tapped for a turn. You can make a pretty
effective Tap and Bleed deck with this card and some of the *ahem*
useful Toreador-Anti's. I made this deck; it's on Mark Langsdorf's page
if you want to take a look at it.
> and for combat defense use the one that has Dodge

I would put in some of the Nec aggro card. I don't remember exactly
what it is, but I think it's only usable at long range, so you'd have to
put in some maneuvers, but it's useful to keep people on their toes.
Even Entombment may be expensive, but if I had one I'd play with it...

Yeah, I agree here. If only my group hadn't made a house rule rendering
the Tomb of Ramses nearly useless... Oh, well.
> Love the name. Maybe you could rewrite the song...
I was getting set to type the deck in, and I said "Damn, I need a name
for this deck..." so I just put down the first thing I thought of. I
would have made it "We're all cool and purple", but my friend Peter has
already got that one.

James... Not usable on the first round of combat... S'why Necromancy
sucks opossum balls. And the card that *would* have gone well with the
Potence angle of the Giovanni, i.e. after smacking someone for six and
then "push, twist, pop", Soul Stealing, is an action modifier, and so not
usable during combat. The Giovanni are so completely, well, and even
truly screwed.

I've seen it. The thing with JtS is that from my understanding of the WoD,
your soul gets taken and put in a magic jar. Put this into card game terms and
it would seem that JtS should work exactly like Sensory Deprivation. I agree
it is weak.

Torment the Soul and it works on the second round, but it is ranged aggro.

Gaspare Giovanni's a great choice... "Once you pop, you can't stop..."
A couple of Pushing the Limits, a few pulled fangs, the occasional

The problem with this is that it's difficult to be very successful in
combat with _just_ potence. Barring use of Thoughts Betrayed (yuck!) or
something substandard like Fake Out, you won't be able to do anything
about maneuvers. Unless, of course, you're a pitch deck, in which case
you won't be able to do anything about S:CE.

Hmm... I considered this (except with the Lasombra and that Obt
intercept card), but again you have the problem that Potence by itself
isn't amazingly effective in combat due to the lack of maneuvers. Obt
has Shadow Step, but that's rare. I don't think Nec has any maneuvers
at all.

Of course, you'd need a good helping of Immortal Grapple to make sure
they stay put while you kill them... :)

I don't know... It seems to me that obtenebration might be very useful
in combination with potence (shadow step/immortal grapple, also arms of
the abyss and entombment to deal with annoying fortitude people). I
don't have the cards to get something like this working myself, but it
might be doable, if you can somehow get around the fact the Lasombra
vamps are pretty poor in their entirety. (Maybe use Agatha and Hugo for
more potence?)
Aside from that, it looks decent, although it still suffers from the
Lasambra vamp problem.

Well, that's the problem, though. To make the combination somewhat
useful, you need lots of rare cards. I have 2 Shadow Steps, and I've
pawed through almost all of the local players' Obt cards. No
Entombments, either.
> Aside from that, it looks decent, although it still suffers from the

They're not that bad, really. Maybe if I had a lot of early pressure,
like from a nasty S&B deck, I might get hosed, but the blood gain angles
work pretty well.

Huh? Dom not helping in combat? How about Thoughts Betrayed, pound,

Or how about the Dodge Additional strike card, Arms of the Abyss, for
Obt, it doesn't cost a blood like Acrobatics.

The biggest problems I have with my Giovanni POT/NEC deck are S:CE and
dodge.
Against dodges, I'll just keep pressing until you run out, but it gets a

If your angle is to be a combat deck, then you almost have to be using
short range big Pot strikes, with Immortal Grapple. The pitch strategy
on defense works fairly well, but without Celerity for additional
strikes, it's not that great for offense.

If you're at close range, Immortal Grapple them.

Soul Stealing has errata that adds a superior version to
the card (from the errata list posted monthly):
Soul Stealing [DS] - Action Modifier{/Combat} (ne):
The normal version can only be used as an action modifier (card text).
Superior: As above, and this card can also be played as a combat card.

Yeah, I agree with other people here, 1 combat discipline does not a
combat deck make, you need two to tango. Given you're moral stance
against thoughts betrayed the Giovanni only have 1, but I think that the
Lasombra are nothing like the Giovanni because they have Arms of the
Abyss. Celerity (guns/pot/thau) decks tend to mince pure potence, that
additional strike is crucial. I havent played my Lasombra deck, I tried
to make it bleed, vote, and pound it turned out 150 cards, and I havent
decided which way to go.

Certainly Obt is much more useful than Nec...
Here's a breakdown of the cards:
Necromancy
* Compel the Spirit
Useless at inferior, and even at superior requires you to be playing
with retainers and allies, which mostly suck.
* Eyes of the Dead
Completely useless. Isn't this one also obsoleted by an AH or Sabbat
card?
* Jar the Soul
Pretty much useless for a tap and bleed deck, and even though the
superior is a mildly useful effect, why put this card in?
* Possession
Probably the only reason to use Necromancy. Very useful with Minion Tap
/ Golconda combos.
* Release of the Shackled Soul
Again useless because allies are useless.
* Soul Stealing
Weak when compared to Ritual of the Bitter Rose.
* Spectral Divination
One of the few useful Nec cards, though it costs a blood.
* Spiritual Intervention
Why would you want to S:CE unless you weren't using Potence? Doesn't
work well with the Giovanni's other abilities.
* Torment the Soul
Ranged aggro, but not usable first round. Still doesn't mix well with
Potence.
* Death Pact
Would you like me to write a treatise on how completely and utterly
useless this card is?
* Whispers from the Dead
The "Carlotta Card". Under NL, Carlotta's ability is not a big deal,
and certainly not enough to make a card out of it. This is "card
disadvantage", baby.
Well, that's it. 11 cards, and maybe 2 or 3 actually usable.
Obtenebration
* Arms of the Abyss
Very useful; comparable to Acrobatics, and doesn't cost a blood. Mixes
well with Potence.
* Call the Lamprey
Completely useless. Only actually _usable_ at superior, and why would
you want to?
* Entombment
One of the examples of Sabbat escalation. Needless to say, a good card.
* Eyes of the Night
A good card, even better than its Auspex equivalent.
* Shade
Just like Wolf Companion, and just as useful: not very.
* Shadow Body
What Form of Mist should have been, though appropriately nowhere near as
useful.
* Shadow Play
A very useful card which works well with Dominate, though it does cost a
blood.
* Shadow Step
Sabbat introduced us to "range-setty-action" (qv Caleian), and this is a
useful card. Shadow Step, Immortal Grapple is kind of nasty.
* Shroud of Night
A nice variation on Shadow Play, exchanging +1 stealth and the blood
cost for the bleed restriction.
* Summon the Abyss
An interesting card... not obviously useless, but not obviously useful,
either.
10 cards, with most of them useful.
> I havent played my Lasombra deck, I tried
> to make it bleed, vote, and pound it turned out 150 cards, and I havent

I think the only options are bleed/fight and bleed/vote. Vote/fight
doesn't really work very well, since votes don't directly get you into
fights, while Bruise and bleed will. Bleeds and votes work pretty well
together, since you theoretically have multiple ways to kill people.

I guess it's comparable to Cryptic Mission, but I've never really seen
the usefulness of that card, either, other than to be annoying.

There are some useful allies (not many), but anti-ally cards are
completely useless.

A few allies are actually somewhat nice, but it's not worth putting this

Probably the best Nec card in there.

Nonono... I in no way mean to say that Death Pact is actually a useful
card. It's one of the silliest cards in Jyhad. The only good thing
about it is that in the group I play with, I'll drop one on someone
using one of the weaker Giovanni, and the person who's vampire it is
knows that the vampire annoys me and will die very soon.
It's like putting a contract on someone. Somewhat useless, but good for
story.
And you would think that a level 10 discipline in V:TM would actually be
useful, after all it "allows the character to act as if he were the
Prince of Darkness himself."

Well, I've had a Lasombra deck for a while based on Entombments. Rush a
vampire, send him to torpor with Superior Entombment then use Graverobbing
with Obtenebration stealth to steal him. Add some Mind Rapes and lots of
Bleed and some political. The best combat for Lasombra besides entombment is
that S:CE (the name escapes me) and the dodge/additional strike. Potence just
doesn't work on its own so don't even try. The deck has worked pretty well so
far, although S&B kills it (of course) because of the high cost of the
Lasombra.

I have made very effective Lasombra deck. Using Thoughts Betrayed, Arms
of the Abyss+pulled fangs and Entombment they win most of the fights.
My only bleeding card is Return to Innocence. My damage dealing
cards are usually banishments. Political Struggle is good card to get
extra votes. Burning an enemy vampire is very easy with Lasombras. Use
Thoughts Betrayed and then arms of the abyss and pulled fangs/entombment.
Decapitae finishes enemy with style. (Amaranth would be better but I don`t
want to risk my vampires)

You know... something about this just doesn't seem right? How many
Entombments, RTIs, and Pulled Fangs do you have? These are rare and damn hard
for me to get, even with the net. The guy that posts here selling Sabbat,
doesn't have Entombments and it seems that the rares in the set are hard to
get (because no one is buying after the first month of it's release).
You say " My damage dealing cards are usually banishments". What is meant by
this?
