The card text says to play a combat card on him. During combat, he may
use the ability of that card "as if that card had been played from your
hand." Does doing this discard that card, or does it become a permanent
ability of the Satyr, like Zack North's 2 hand damage?

It remains permanently on the Satyr. The rules team has ruled that the
ability is usable once per combat.

It does not discard the card.
It remains with the Satyr, ready to be used *next combat*.
Note: you can only use the combat card once per combat (general ruling
on the "During X, (you may) do Y" template).
