Adaptability reads: (Inferior) Change all aggravated damage from one strike to normal damage. (Superior) Prevent all aggravated damage from one strike. Can either of these effects be applied to self-inflicted strike damage (e.g. Burst of Sunlight)? My guess for the superior is no, since Skin of Steel can't prevent such damage. My less-certain guess for the inferior is also no, based more-or-less on the same reasoning. What's the official answer? --- Eric Pettersen pett "at" cgl "dot" ucsf "dot" edu (NeXTmail capable)

What's the official > answer? Your guesses are correct: * "Damage from a strike" only includes damage done to the opposing target. Side effect damage is not counted as "damage from a strike". Therefore, self-inflicted damage from Zip Gun, Grenade, Burst of Sunlight, Body of Sun, etc. is side effect damage and is not preventable by "prevent damage from a strike" effects like Skin of Steel, Leather Jacket, etc. [LSJ 970108] -- L. No, it can't. Damage dealt to you by a strike you do is considered to not come from a strike, being merely a side-effect. -- James Coupe (Prince of Mercia, England) Vampire: Elder Kindred Network http://madnessnetwork.hexagon.net http://www.obeah.demon.co.uk

What's the official >answer? Card Text on Skin of Steel superior level is '...and prevent all damage from opponent's strikes for the remainder of the round'. The 'opponents' clause is what prevents you from applying that to your own minion's strikes. However, the inferior level of Skin of Steel can prevent damage from your own strike, but only that one strike. Likewise Adaptability can prevent damage from your own strike, but only that one strike (or change at inf.). I dont know if i'm official enough for you :> Floatey.

[Re skin of steel prevention of your own strike] >No, it can't. Damage dealt to you by a strike you do is considered to >not come from a strike, being merely a side-effect. Erg. I sure got that wrong. To atone; [Cut & Paste from 'Rulings'] "Damage from a strike" only includes damage done to the opposing target. [LSJ 970108] [1] [2] I hope that answers the original question which I misled you on, and which James has corrected me. Must have had a late night early rules flashback. Heh, I'll stick to fighting with Xian about the tremere. Floatey.
