Can I tap Heidelberg before a minion makes his mandatory action ? Like, if he suddenly lost blood and was untapped, could I tap it before he hunted ? Of if Philippe Rigaud had to diablerize, could I instead empty him of his blood so he'd have to hunt right away ? -- "All Hail the Lords of the Night !" Orpheus

[ quoted text not captured ] Card Text: Unique location. Tap to transfer equipment cards, move blood and transfer retainers between any two ready vampires you control. (You may choose the amount of blood you move and which cards you transfer.) Cannot be used during an action. Clarifications and Rulings May not be tapped "during" paying some cost - must be tapped before or after. [SFC 19960830] Heidelburg Castle may not be tapped "in response" to any instant effect (because all effects in V:TES are instantaneous except for actions and certain combat effects). [LSJ] I would say "yes" to both of your queries. What you describe is, in my opinion, effective use of HC and a good reason to include it in a deck. You just can't tap it *during* an action, say to add blood to Phillipe so he can pay for an Earth Meld after a block attempt is declared.
