I use a combination of Fame and Mummify in my Setite deck which works quite well. Now i was wandering is somebody could play an Amarand after i played my Mummify. Hans-Christian Wittler

No. Amaranth is played during the press phase, which doesn't happen, as Mummify is a Strike: Combat Ends. Mr. Pynk --- http://www.wulaw.wustl.edu/~tvbarnha/mr_pynk/

The problem with Amaranth, Taste of Vitae, and Pulled Fangs is that nowhere on the card text is it stated that they are played during the press phase. The only restrictions on these three are that they cannot be played by vampires not going to torpor (or minions not dying for PF). I seem to remember everyone saying that PF could only be used in the press phase, but I can't find any rulings that say these cards are used in the press phase. Mummify wouldn't be quite so one-sided if Amaranth couldn't trump it so easily.

Almost true. Taste of Vitae (as I understand it) has text which restricts its play (Jyhad version, I believe): Card Text Taste of Vitae Combat This vampire gains all the blood lost during the current round of combat by the opposing vampire. Play after the strike resolution. Not usable by a vampire going to torpor. Since there isn't a whole lot which happens AFTER the strike resolution phase, I would assume that Taste of Vitae is restricted to the press stage, or as the press stage is beginning. : I seem to remember everyone saying that PF could only be used in : the press phase, but I can't find any rulings that say these cards are : used in the press phase. I didn't have to look much further than LSJ's excellent site: Official Rulings Pulled Fangs - Combat: Is used during the press step. [RTR] [Reaffirmed TOM 960228] Counts up damage successfully inflicted during the round by the opposing minion (retainers don't count). [RTR] The actions to burn this card may be taken by different vampires, and may be taken on different turns. [RTR] More than one may be played on a Vampire in the same round. [RTR] A vampire not currently entering torpor may play Pulled Fangs, regardless of whether it would go into torpor later. [TOM 960531] The question of Amaranth and Taste of Vitae is another one entirely. As I understand it, it may be played whenever someone is on the way to torpor. If "Pulled Fangs" is that vehicle, then I suppose Amaranth would then need to be played in the press stage. ;) I do not know that Amaranth is limited to the press phase. -James

It is? I was under the belief that Pulled Fangs was limited to the press phase, but that Amaranth could be played whenever a combatting vampire was sent to torpor. -James

Timing Synopsis: Amaranth: as the combat is ending (before combat ends). Minor Boon: after combat has ended Pulled Fangs: during the press step. Rotschreck: during the announce strikes phase. Taste of Vitae: after any strike resolution phase (but not between first srike and normal strike) jam...@dgii.com (James Puzzo) writes: >Nathan Harada (an64...@anon.penet.fi) wrote: >: > No. Amaranth is played during the press phase, which doesn't happen, as >: > Mummify is a Strike: Combat Ends. >: >: The problem with Amaranth, Taste of Vitae, and Pulled Fangs is that >: nowhere on the card text is it stated that they are played during the >: press phase. Pulled Fangs has text which says to count up all the damage done during a round. This has been ruled to be counted during the press step - not an illogical ruling, IMHO. The other two (Amaranth and Taste) are played as implied by card text. > Card Text Taste of Vitae Combat > This vampire gains all the blood lost during the current round of > combat by the opposing vampire. Just between the strike resolution and the press step *if* no one has any additional strikes. Taste can be played after any strike resolution phase (that is, after any pair of strikes have resolved). Playing it early may net you less blood, but it may also keep you out of torpor. >: I seem to remember everyone saying that PF could only be used in >: the press phase, but I can't find any rulings that say these cards are >: used in the press phase. >I didn't have to look much further than LSJ's excellent site: <My summary of Pulled Fangs' rulings deleted> >The question of Amaranth and Taste of Vitae is another one entirely. Yes. Amaranth is played whenever someone is going to torpor - be it from strike resolution, Press Step (pulled fangs), start-of-round (Weather Control) or what have you. Not that Amaranth *cannot* be played in response to a vampire going to torpor as the result of Rotschreck, since Rotschreck ends combat before placing the vampire in torpor (and Amaranth must be played during combat, as the vampire goes to torpor). -- L. Thanks, LSJ and James. Back to the original question. So, could Amaranth be played on a vampire using Mummify?
