Hello! At our regular wednesday night game, I happened on a peculiar situation. I was in dire straits and would not survive (being bled at stealth, and having little to no pool gain), but I had 3 pool and a Life Boon in hand. The game was down to three players, with my prey (and grand-predator) bleeding my predator. He threatened to bleed him out, and would have swept through me most likely. I played Life Boon on him for the three pool I had, which saved him for the turn. Now, by that I ousted myself and gave a victory point to my predator (because his prey was ousted). Do I receive that, due to the Life Boon? Our prince thought not but was not sure (which is highly unusual for Jay, who has yet to be wrong on a ruling in my presence), so I'd thought to ask. Give pool to a Methuselah with no pool to keep <him or> her in the game; put this card in play. During each of his or her untap phases, you can collect 1 pool from that Methuselah. The first victory point (and ante) that the Methuselah wins is given to you (unless you are ousted by then). This Life Boon is then burned. Notice the important change: "(unless you are ousted by then)" Carpe noctem. Lasombra http://www.TheLasombra.com -- Posted via Mailgate.ORG Server - http://www.Mailgate.ORG

It seems related to Josh's question about "spending pool" and effects of a card all resolving at the same time. Clearly it doesn't work the way it used to, where you could gain a VP turns after you were no longer in the game. But if you are ousted by the effects of playing the card, then wouldn't you still be in the game for all the other effects of that card? Maybe these nuances were apparent to you as you reached your conclusion, but I'd like to see a somewhat more explicit explanation. Thanks, David Cherryholmes Prince of Durham, NC

You cannot get any benefit from Life Boon if you are ousted. This is exactly the reason the card text was changed, to prevent people from stealing the VP for their own death. From the May 1st, 2000 Rules Team Rulings: http://www.thelasombra.com/rules/RTR5-100.htm Life Boon doesn't provide a VP if you are ousted. Since (as a master card) it is burned when you are ousted, this makes some sense, but it is still errata to change the "even if you are ousted by then" to "unless you are ousted by then". Note: this means that you cannot get a VP for your own ousting - you will be ousted (and Life Boon's effect will terminate) before you can collect. [ quoted text not captured ]
