...if I haven't played since Sabbat and want to get back in? And do you recommend the VTES CCG: 3rd Edition Players Kit? Is the rulebook in there most up-to-date (or reasonably up-to-date)?

The 3rd Ed Players Pack is reasonable. It gives you four cut down starter decks, with rules, a play through guide and some counters. All useful, especially if you are trying to find additional players - easy start for them. Otherwise I would either get a set of four starters from either 3rd or Keepers of Tradition (should have up to date rulebooks in) so that you have complete starters to play with - new players etc.. Or get a pair of overlapping starters so that you can start making new decks such as Brujah antitribu from 3rd and Brujah from Keepers. Also you need to find more players, so look on the White Wolf website http://www.white-wolf.com/vtes/index.php Or join the UK Vtes Forum here http://www.anarchfreepress.com/vtesuk/index.php Should keep you going! :) Sam

Oooh the designer has spoken. Right, I gave the online rulebook a read, and here are the differences I suspected (it's been so long I can't even really remember how it used to work) - you can only burn 1 political action card for vote per referendum (used to be as many as you want) - A title only gives votes if the vampire is untapped - there's a new grouping rule for the crypt but it's not really too strict (hmmm I wished I'd been doing this post whilst I was reading the rules now) - I *thought* there're some new (or maybe even old) limitations on whether you can play the same combat card in the same combat (or round) but I can't seem to find it now. Would be great if someone can help me clear them up. Thanks.

> Zubbus wrote: > you can only burn 1 political action card for vote per referendum (used to be as many as you want) Correct. Also the rule used to be that no one replaced any cards played during a referendum. That rule has been removed. Now the cards are replaced as normal. > A title only gives votes if the vampire is untapped. No, this is the same: tapped or untapped, it doesn't matter. What matters (now as it did in the beginning) is that the vampire must be ready (not in torpor) to cast votes. > there's a new grouping rule for the crypt but it's not really too strict True. The rule leaves any crypt that was legal before the rule (which just means: had 12 cards) legal still, and it enables White Wolf to continue printing more vampires while still making the game accessible to new players and to returning players. > (hmmm I wished I'd been doing this post whilst I was reading the rules now) > - I *thought* there're some new (or maybe even old) limitations on whether you can play the same combat card in the same combat (or round) but I can't seem to find it now. Combat cards are not restricted (except that you only get one strike per strike, cannot cancel your own maneuvers or presses, and can only use one additional-strike-gaining effect each round -- just like in the original). One other notable change since the era you seem to be comparing to: a minion cannot attempt a bleed action more than once each turn. Likewise political actions. And likewise action-card actions (by card name).

So I can play identical copies of combat card for strike? What about for other things like damage prevention, maneuver and press? > Rulemonger wrote: > One other notable change since the era you seem to be comparing to: a minion cannot attempt a bleed action more than once each turn. > Zubbus wrote: > So I can play identical copies of combat card for strike? No. Not for the same strike. You only get to play one strike for each strike. If you have additional strikes, you can use another copy of the same strike card you used for your initial strike, sure. > What about for other things like damage prevention, maneuver and press? You can use multiples of the same card. > So what's it's saying is, the only actions a minion can repeat in the same turn are non-card actions minus bleed? Well, a minion could Arson then (if he untaps) equip with a .44 Magnum then (untapping again) equip with a Saturday Night Special. But he couldn't call a Kine Resources Contested, untap, and then call a Consanguineous Boon.

There's a pretty good explanation of the NRA rule (no-repeat-action) on the blog of extrala : http://extrala.blogspot.com/2009/03/nra-explained.html On how to restart: I agree with everything Sam said ;) On your rules questions: I agree with everything LSJ said (just keep in mind that he might be a cylon)
