strikes effective at range?

6.4.2 seems to imply that determining range also determines what strikes can be used, ie:non-ranged strikes cannot be played at range. Is this true? Can I play a Dagons Call to punch for +1 if we are at long range? Does the auxilliary effect kick in (1 unpreventable during press) if the strike is ineffective at range? What if I make the same strike at close and it is dodged, does the opposing minion take the press step damage still? T

Incorrect. They will simply be ineffective. > Can I play a Dagons Call to punch for +1 if we are at long range? > Does the auxilliary effect kick in (1 unpreventable during press) if > the strike is ineffective at range? You may strike with it, but it will be ineffective, thus none of the effects will be applied to the opposing minion. > What if I make the same strike at close and it is dodged, does the > opposing minion take the press step damage still? No. See the definition of Dodge. Xian

No, 6.4.2 does not imply that. Some strikes are only usable at close range. (Blood Fury, e.g.) Some strikes are only usable at long range. (Sewer Lid, e.g.) If you're not at close range, you can't play Blood Fury. If you're not at long range, you can't play Sewer Lid. > Can I play a Dagons Call to punch for +1 if we are at long range? Yes. > Does the auxilliary effect kick in (1 unpreventable during press) if > the strike is ineffective at range? No. That's the definition of ineffective. > What if I make the same strike at close and it is dodged, does the > opposing minion take the press step damage still? No. Dodge protects the dodger from the effects of the strike. -- LSJ (vte...@white-wolf.com) V:TES Net.Rep for White Wolf, Inc. Ok that works. > >> What if I make the same strike at close and it is dodged, does the >> opposing minion take the press step damage still? > >No. Dodge protects the dodger from the effects of the strike. > I agree, however I would interpret Dagons Call to have a stike of hands+1, with an auxiliary effect of 1 unprv. environmental damage during the press step. Therefore a dodge would void the hand strike, but not the environmental damage. T

[ quoted text not captured ] DC is a strike. The effects of a strike are exactly what dodge is operating against. [ quoted text not captured ]
