Okay, here's a poser for you. I'm playing an Obf/Cel deck. I hidden lurker against my Nosferatu prey's Ebanezer Roush with both a Wolf Companion and a Murder of Crows. My vampire has superior Celerity and obfuscate. She establishes range (Ebanezer declines to maneuver), and then strikes for hand damage of 1. Ebanezer can't strike, so he suffers 1 during strike resolution. However, my vampire suffers two (one from the Wolf Companion, one from the Murder of Crows). My vampire blurs at superior level. She strikes again for hand damage of 1, but again suffers two damage (from wolf & crows, because she goes through the Strike Resolution step). With her third strike she striked for hand damage, but again suffers two damage from wolf & crows. Is this anywhere near legal? My vampire has just lost seven blood (six for the damage, one for the blur), and the vampire I'm in combat with lost only 3. Does the Wolf Companions and Murder of Crows only apply when the vampire with them strikes? Or do they apply at all times in combat, like in a Hidden Lurker deck or a Fast Reaction deck. Hidden Lurker implies that the lurker cannot be seen by the vampire. Why then, can his animals attack when he can't? Does the same count for Zombies and Ghoul Retainers? Does the 'inflicts 1(R) damage during Strike resolution' apply only to when the vampire controlling the animals strikes? Or is it whenever the opposing vampire goes through strike resolution? I would have thought not, because the vampire is showing supernatural speed through the blurs, and mere animals shouldn't be able to keep up. Is there an official ruling on this please? -- Justin Grace http://www.bgrace.demon.co.uk/

I have always played that the damage resollved from retainers (as described above) only applies to the initial strike resolution phase. Additional strikes are _not_ applied to the opposing minion's retainers. As such, I believe the damage application of four additional damage to be erroneous. In my group, damage would resolve as follows: Justin's minion: choose strike: Hands Ebanezer: (skip choose strike) Strike resolution: Ebanezer takes 1 damage from J's minion hand strike, and J's minion takes 2 damage, 1 from each retainer. Additional strike purchase: J's minion purchases a Blur for two additional strikes, and pays 1 blood. Additional Strike Resolution: J's minion punches for two more 1 damage Hand Strikes. Net loss: 3 blood off Ebanezer (3 damage), 3 blood off J's minion (2 damage, 1 purchase). >Is this anywhere near legal? Neither, I believe the retainers only do damage once, in the initial strike resolution phase... >Is there an official ruling on this please? >-- The above is not a confirmed official ruling.... >Justin Grace >http://www.bgrace.demon.co.uk/ Regards, R. No. The retainers only deal their damage during the initial strike resolution. > Does the Wolf Companions and Murder of Crows only apply when the vampire > with them strikes? Why then, can his animals > attack when he can't? 1) It's a card game. 2) Hidden Lurker means that he attacks with surprise from the shadows. The victim cannot strike because of the surprise advantage, but the retainers still can. > Does the same count for Zombies and Ghoul Retainers? All damage-dealing retainers (who deal damage during strike resolution) only deal their damage during the initial strike resolution of a round, and do so regardless of whether their controller gets a strike. --- L.
